Just a heads up for any fellow Canadians who may be considering purchasing a ScotteVest... watch out for the courier fees, taxes and duties!!!!

Just to be clear - I have no complaints regarding the ScotteVest itself. I got the version 3.0 microfibre shell and it's great!

My gripe is mostly with UPS. They are theives!!! They charged me $46 CDN in customs brokerage fees on a $220 CDN purchase. That's 20%!!!! To add insult to injury - I not only had to pay Canadian taxes on the purchase itself - but on the customs brokerage fees too - tax total of $42. Add to this the duty - another $36 - for a total of $124 in extra fees.

So - in the end I paid $346 CDN for a $159 USD jacket!!!!

OUCH! 8O

Well you can hardly blame ScottEvest for the duties and taxes, and what is with your title? You mention in your thread that the ScottEvest was fine, so what did you say you got screwed with buying one?

In the end, you were "screwed" by UPS.

I never said that I blamed ScottEvest for the duties and taxes. Where did you get that from?

Uhh - isn't that exactly what I said? I said that my gripe was "mostly with UPS". Maybe I didn't specifically state that my gripe was also with the Canadian gov't for taxes and duties - but I thought that was pretty obvious.

I did, however, specifically point out that I had no complaints with ScotteVest. As for the title - I worded it carefully as to not infer any negative message against ScotteVest. The title says that I got screwed buying a ScotteVest - it did not say that I got screwed by ScotteVest

My original post was merely a cautionary message about ordering items from the USA. I only mentioned ScotteVest specifically because this particular instance involved their products. By the way, I was charged duties because the product is made in Korea. If it had been American made, I wouldn't have been charged duties because of NAFTA.
