So what is that advanced sounds? I don't have that on my h2215. Is that new, or is it a Phone edition thing?

WOW WOW WOW look how crisp the fonts are!!! AMAZING! Man makes me want an e805 even though I love my Ipaq 4150!

Apparently they added an alarm clock function too.. "Clock & Alarms"

I honestly am not too happy with the fact that they're adding the XP-Style MRU for programs on the start menu. I like it on my desktop, but I'd rather not have that clutter on the start menu on my PPC.

Well, I'm assuming that you have the option to get rid of anything you don't want in the Start Menu...just as we always have with Pocket PC's under Settings -> Menu.

They didn't add any MRU. Its been there since PPC 2002 (maybe 2000? I don't recall). Its just instead of being tiny icons on top, its now text at the bottom, unless you're in landscape mode where it reverts back to the old method.

Your optimistic, what makes you think Toshiba will offer an upgrade for e805 owners? Their track record? :)

Sorry... sorry... the demons that formed after getting burned made me say it.

Looks to me like HP is falling behind here. Unless, they have a slew of new units in the wings just waiting for the second edition version.

Got my e805 in 11/03. Loving every minute of it.

That's not good though - I prefer the MRU the way it is now: Small!

It appears the MRU puts things as menu items just as large as the regular ones, just in a different section.

I don't want to have to go to the menu settings area every day to clear that crap up.

Actually I think Toshiba France has already announced that they will be supporting the e800 very very shortly with a free update. I think I read it on http://www.pocketnow.com

Don't take this post as fact. :)

Apparently they added an alarm clock function too.. "Clock & Alarms"

Alarm Clock functionality has always been there. They just changed the label from Clock to Clock & Alarms.

I imagine this makes it more visible to people... :D

On another note, I see the option to adjust font size system wide. Now, when one changes from QVGA to VGA, do you have to go and adjust the font size each time you increase and decrease the resolution? Here's hoping for some type of profile management.

Sorry... sorry... the demons that formed after getting burned made me say it.

A translated quote from the French site...

The official dispatch of Toshiba is expressed besides in these terms: "Toshiba will propose a free update (downloadable on Internet site www.pc.toshiba.fr) on its Pocket PC e400 and e800.

I know this is for the French version but if they do it for them them...

Wow, the font looks so crisp (Tungsten T3 style). Also, the screen real estate looks amazing. Now I must wait patiently for a VGA screen to come in an iPaq 4150 casing. :)

Alex, those PI pics also look amazing! 8O Congrats to your team....

gee, I really want a VGA screen now. But I can't justify buying another device after paying $400 just a month ago for my iPaq 4155..

Are those fonts that sharp because of VGA resolution? Will I get fonts that sharp on my 2210? I've been eyeing the Clie TH55 for awhile because of the beautiful screen.

Thanks,

I don't think so... if you take a look at some screenshots from pocketpcparadise.com, they show WM2003SE on a 240 x 320 screen.

http://www.pocketpcparadise.com/actu_2004/wm2003se_paysage_calendar.gif

The font looks the same as it does now. I think you'll need to upgrade to VGA if you want those fonts.

So go for the CLIE (nice PDA) or wait a few months for new VGA devices! :)

I believe this realeas is more like windows 2000 in desktop. The PPC2002 is like windows 98 while PPC 2003 is like Windows ME in desktop. The WM2004 will be like winXP in desktop.

So WM2003 SE finally include all features which should be included in WM2003. I am really exactly by this release.

Since I don't have an e805, it won't make much difference to me (for the time being), but for those with e805's, the photos appear to be an English OS with French Regional settings. That would seem to mean there is an English ROM for the e805 (or at least an almost finished one).

It still is. That break is where the menu will truncate on landscape orientation. You now design your start menu allowing for that.

I agree!

Keep in mind, everyone, that you need a VGA device to get this kind of font quality and screen real estate.

I'm more interested in screen rotation. I'm one of those who think it's not yet a time for VGA screens in Pocket PC.

Any idea if current devices (iPAQ 2215) will be able to upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, even if a few features won't work (VGA)?

That's not a dumb question... I've got an iPaq 4155 and am DYING for screen rotation...

I'm pretty certain I won't get any higher resolution, but the screen rotation would come in VERY handy!

Yah it will as evidenced by the Motorola MPx, its got a QVGA screen and showed it of.

The fact that they got a copy of WM2k3SE running on a e80x makes me think that this update is generic like the EUU, this means that they come from MS and can be installed in any PPC (OEMs don't have to change anything on them) :!: :?:

MS is playing with us - luring us with a few tidbits and making us wait for ANOTHER OS upgrade in 2005. This is more about marketing and money-making than it is about real and substantial progress in the OS. Too bad for we loyalists!

OK, so I've seen the screenshots in action. Heard the rumors, etc.

But one key piece of information is missing...

When will this be available for upgrade and when will new devices be released with VGA screen?

I was giving up my 2210 in favor of a 4150, but now I think I will hold on a few weeks and see what happens.

A 4150 device with a VGA screen would be my dream at this moment.

Totally up to the OEMS, not Microsoft. I am sure they are holding off on announcements until they have devices ready. Announcing now will kill sales.

this is the first time I like how PPC look like
the fonts are great (almost as on POS with lubak's Fonts4OS5 which allows you to change fonts for each application & 4 diferent sizes http://www.lubak.net/ )

and I have to admit .. WM2003 SE looks really great .. now I only wish there was some decent device with keyboard like Sony Clie UX50 (which I currently have) .. hp ipaq4355 doesn't count since it's way too big ..

I am still using my Toshiba 740e and will never buy another Toshiba PDA since they have dropped the support for this unit. If they had given the 740e support I would have upgraded to the newer version and given my 740e to my Grandson. I'm just one person but there must be others out there that feel the same on what Toshiba has accomplished or not accomplished.

Again, it depends on the vendor and which product it is. Some will offer upgrades; others will only make it available with new devices.
