<a href="http://www.datadocktorn.nu/us_frag1.php">http://www.datadocktorn.nu/us_frag1.php</a><br /><br />It is common knowledge that one of biggest performance problems with a computer is a badly fragmented hard drive and many of us use software defraggers. There may be a better way though.<br /><br />"A hard drive becomes fragmented very, very fast. What happens is that all the tiny ones and zeros gets mixed and confused, and to get back the original speed on Your hard drive it's necessary to Defragment it. There are several of different species of software to make this happen, but the most excellent way to do it is a hardwaredefragmentation. you'll only need some basic data-mechanical-skills to be able to accomplish this operation."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2004/20040312-defraggle.jpg" /><br /><br />Of course, this is much more than just a how-to article. You will also learn many valuable tips in the process!<br /><br />"If you have Windows on your Data machine, You'll find the OS on the top disc, you'll recognize it easily, it's much heavier then the rest of the discs. If you use Linux, then you'll of course don't need to do this operation at all..."<br /><br />Have a good weekend all! :rotfl:

"The most colorful parts of the disc is the part where all the graphics are!"

heh.

My pocket pc has been a bit laggy lately. I think I'll have to try this with it too.

I tried this last night...

Let's just say that none of the Windows problems I've been having ever occurred again. Also, I've stopped receiving spam! And, no more annoying popups and spyware. This is an amazing technique.

By the way, I'm typing this on a public terminal...

I'm just wondering, is there any problem defraggling if your motherdisk is compressed? Also, does defraggling support file systems other than FAT, FAT32, and NTFS?

If anyone's wondering if an electric toothbrush would work any better, read this. ---> http://forum.datadocktorn.nu/forum/read.php?f=18&i=226&t=226

What scares me the most about this is I have customers who would try this and then expect me to fix it! Well I guess it would give me a chance to collect on that $800 p/h stupidity fee...

Since I have two motherdiscs on a RAID controller, do I need to do this to both? I don't think the RAID controller can disassemble the second motherdisc by itself. :confused totally:

If you don't do both at the same time, the flibits will no longer be aligned. You know how much damage occurs with misaligned flibits!

i must be going insane, i followed the link and read ever thing, then burst out laughing, after looking everywhere to find out if it was a joke.

I must be lagging or my brain wasn't working or it must need some defragging.... :iamwithstupid:

Too bad spamming is illegal I should send this out to some computer "wizards" I know, so I too could collect on the stupid fee. Absolutely brilliant.

And while we are on the topic of PC maintenance let us all not forget that CD's and DVD's also need cleaning especially the ones you borrow from your friends and the library for example. I never put in someone's filthy CD or a DVD into my equipment without proper cleansing. You can see it HERE (http://www.electricstuff.co.uk/cdzap.html) :bangin:

Well I just was able to defraggle approx. 50% of my colleagues PC's so far.
Can't wait till monday morning as I'm shure that everyone will be surprised about the performance increase and will be thankfull to me!

I'd never heard of that site before...definately one I'll use!

I thought it was serious for a minute. Then I saw the toothbrush...then the magnetic speaker, and I started laughing. Good times.

Guys, am I doing something wrong? I just went through the steps exactly like he had done... but my pc fails to boot.

Might it be that I used Windex instead of that Swedish brand?

Actually, it's set up in zones, like DVD's, depending upon where your hard drive is made. If it's Japan, use a Japanese cleaner, etc.

8O 8O 8O WOW, pretty CD's!!! 8O 8O 8O

I have a few co-workers who, if I did this defraggling to their work PC's, probably wouldn't even notice! Sad to say, they are exactly the kind of people who would take this seriously!

I also liked the article on how to make a mini PC from a server! Who needs to buy a Shuttle after all - Jason, you should have just built your own SFF PC using that method. Interesting flexibility on component location - just weld that HD wherever it fits the best!

If anyone's wondering if an electric toothbrush would work any better, read this. ---> http://forum.datadocktorn.nu/forum/read.php?f=18&i=226&t=226
Quote from above:
NO!

The oscillating electric current from the toothbrush produces a small electromagnetic field, and the fluctuations of this field would induce irregular currents in the data-reading heads. This could cause permanent damage, and your disc would not work nearly as fast, if at all, afterwards.

If your hard disc does not work then your computer will not boot. (However Windows users may not notice the difference.)
I don't know why but that last sentence had me laughing.. so hard :D

Not always true! I have a Linux machine that won't boot.

Really fine print: It's a POS controller card and not the OS causing this malfunction. I may have scrubbed the card a little too hard when I was cleaning it.

And here I thought the best way to clean up my hard drive was to soak it in the bathtub with some Woolite.....
