Looks cool, but why can't companies offer both CDMA and GSM at the same time or at least offer them altogether.

Nice looking device - very businesslike, but, don't it look somewhat like a Palm? :? That's convergence for you!

Looks cool, but why can't companies offer both CDMA and GSM at the same time or at least offer them altogether.
For several reasons.

1. GSM phones can be sold as aftermarket devices, since you can swap SIM cards in. In general, CDMA phones can't -- you need to work through the carrier, which takes months.

2. GSM is a bigger marketshare globally.

I'd love to see CDMA too, but I'm not surprised as to why the vendor is doing it that way. :|

Thats one big battery :!:

But it only has 64Mb ram, and when compared to the MPx has a very yawn-inspiring form factor. Is it supposed to have a flip cover, for if not it will definitely need a case. It doest look much like a phone, maybe its mainly intended for GPRS driven web station.

I replace my phone and pda on a yearly cycle, and with PPCPE devices were able to unify this cycle and save money. Ill be giving this device a miss and going for the MPx I'm afraid.

hi... i just red the whol ppc thoughts for a while, but just this device forced me to write my first post to forum... sorry for my strange english...

so... i think that without wifi and bluetooth i could not imagine my new pda... im just selling my 2210 (my second pda (first was loox 600)) now, and waiting one ppcpe... the question is witch?!...

- MPx 300 or whatever
- ipaq 6300
- or any other :D

pros/cons...: i need wifi and bluetooth... so hp is the only one :( butif i wont buy wifi device then i could buy an imate with vibra-ring :) and with small form factor... so pull nothing me from motorolla cause mpx is the same as imate except the keyboard, what give a big size to the device... but anyway... im fear from ti omap proc. in hp, i think that the integrated 64 meg ram is small for today... (i have a big sd card but need a lot of space for the default programs and for running environment (and 64 is not enought)) i like the ati gfx 'applet' on toshiba e805 for the smooth media playback and 6300 will not have... so... many dissappointments from hp but love the big battery the design and the wifi/bt/gsm feature...

what do u think about it or will be any device with more features in the (aprox.) same time? i dont know what want because all devices has some lacks... would be nice with one 640*480 tft with wifi/bt/gsm/cdma, cool gfx engine and other... dont care about the price :D:D:D i dont have enouth money for it its sure but why nobody make at least one of full featured device?

hope u understand what i wanted to tell u:D:D:D

bye

Couldn't agree with you more, Surur! The two things that stand out of these (rumored) specs are the jumbo battery and mediocre RAM.

I've been thinking about buying a PPCPE. But so far none have got close to my wishlist...

1 - Camera (VGA)
2 - 128MB (or two slots)
3 - Wi-fi
4 - BT
5 - VGA
6 - Keyboard

The Moto is so close it hurts !

Hi,

Do you think they'll only offer this if you sign up for a cell phone contract?

Do you think you can get it without a cell phone contract @ Best Buy (when it comes out). Thanks!

I thought best buy was getting out of the pda business. Lets hope you don't need a contract as this and the moto would be sweet as is.

I'm guessing that PDA stores will sell it. The Treo devices that have cell phone capabilities (GSM, that is) are at Best Buy. Cell carriers will probably offer it as well.

Looks nice, but no keyboard = no go for me. Question for you folks, do the 3.5" PPC Phones (XDA, XDAII) have "head cheese" problems?

Wow, BargainPda also lists the release date for the MPx as 4/01/04. I'm tempted to wake up early on that sunday morning so I could be the first one to demo these units at CompUsa. I won't hold my breath.

Am I the only one who dislikes this current tendency of integrating a digital camera to every single mobile device there is?

I already have this smart and compact minicamera that takes crisp images with decent flash. I really don't fancy those reddish and smutty VGA images that look like they've been interpolated from QVGA.

Not wanting a cell phone with camera is narrowing down my choises already. I really hope that it's not going to be the same thing with PPCs in the near future. I'm having nightmares about future when even toasters come with an integrated camera. :?

It's a good thing if it's optional here, though. Keep it that way.

This is not a big problem at all, unless you normally plaster the phone against your face. I simply angle the phone slightly away from my face, so only the edge is in contact, and dont have to wipe the screen much at all.

It seems like they changed the date. It says "5/1/2004" now. Also, the Moto MPx now says "6/30/2004". I think I'm getting the unit that comes out first... The iPAQ sounds better to me anyway if it has the RIM push.

Does anyone have any idea when Mobile 2004 will be released?
I find it rather odd that HP decided to release this device with Mobile 2003 instead of waiting for 2004.
