What do you think the ultimate geek car would look like? Lots of gadgets? Tons of accessories? Derek Brown, one of Microsoft's mobile devices program founders, sent us this photo of one man's version of the geekiest car around.

At first glance, it looks outrageously complex. At second glance, you realize that it begs the question...

Q: Where does the girlfriend of the driver of the world's geekiest car sit?
A: What girlfriend?

I mean, I sometimes have a hard time attracting the attention of females when I'm wearing my geeky SCOTTeVEST, but this vehicle would have to send out some kind of anti-female waves, wouldn't it?

Get the girlfriend a vibrating seat gadget, that should get her in the car...but then again who needs a girlfriend when you have all those buttons to press in the car? and you already probably have GPS that can tell how to read a map effectively !?!?!

What kind of car is that anyway? That door looks like it swings upward.. the roof line looks kind of Porsche 911'ish...

If a person wanted to stay single all his/her life...this would be a great example of how to accomplish that goal. Wow.

Just to be consistent with your later "Are women as geeky as men post"....

How do you know this vehicle isn't owned by a female? :)

Maybe a Porsche 911 that has had a dinner meeting with a car compactor.

Hmmm, judging from the roof line, the square windshield and the seat, it looks like a highly customized Trabant... Which is a funny, as the built in gadgets probably costs 10 times the price of the car itself. (however I guess this was the orginal point)
Once I saw a similar car with a built in high tech HI-FI system. In that car the audio system was 20x of the original car price. The owner told, he never tried to set the volume above 20%, because the car would probably fell apart... Q: Then why do you did this?

A pink steering wheel for a “Man’s” car??? :shocked!: Looks to me like a geeky “Female’s” car. With that color steering wheel I would only give it to my wife. She never has any room for me in a car anyway and besides she loves pink and purple. If you would change the color of the steering wheel I would buy it in a heartbeat.

... What girlfriend?...but this vehicle would have to send out some kind of anti-female waves, wouldn't it?
And I would have no problem finding room in there for my wife since she’s still my girlfriend 8). Everybody knows that girl friends always fit into cars no matter what the size 8) . Besides any “Real” geek knows that a car could never get too geeky 8) . The old saying goes that “birds of a feather stick together” or something like that. And why does a geeky guy not have a geeky girl friend :?: ? And doesn't anyone realize that only when people are married they aren't required to have anything in common! It's all in the specs! :way to go:

According to an article just a few lines above this one, you are assuming too much when you imply that the pasenger seat would be occupied by the drivers girlfriend, not boyfriend.

Well I would have to disagree Ed, not all Porsches look like that. I would hate to bust your bubble - but that very well may be an older porsche.

Here - look at the window on this one. These types of Porsches arent very expensive because of their age: http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~pstuart/ab2/i/porsche.gif

I do believe it is an older Porsche - I cant think of any other car with a roofline of that. I think it is an old Porsche 911 Carrera - 1970's.

Pickup trucks have a roofline like that.

I know for a fact it is not an old 911. 911's didn't get suspended brake and clutch pedals until 1999. They were floor mounted, just like VW Beetles. It is difficult but you can see they are suspended pedals. It is obvious when you look at the floormat that curves up under them, an impossibility in floor mounts.

Exactly. The roofline reminded me of the older 911's. The really interesting part is that door though.. whatever this person was smoking, I'll take two kilos.

Well - With further research :D I think its a 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo:

Too many differences.

• I think in 1987, the tach was center mount, which is hard to see in the angle you posted of hte 87 911, but clearly the pic Brad posted, it isn't.
• The dash in Brad's pic is flat. The Porsche has a curved hood over the instrument cluster.
• Not sure where the ventelation controls are on the image Brad posted either, but they sure aren't where the 911's are.
• Still can't get around the pedal arrangement. Porsche and VW autos were unique, at least in the US market, with the floor mount pedals during the 70's and beyond. VW finished that here in 1982 when the last VW Beetle Convertable was shipped from Mexico.
• The 911's windshield has a very sharp curve on either end. The goofy red thing looks flat - more like a Beetle (excluding Super Beetles from 1972 and beyond that had curved windshields) but again - wrong floor pedal config, so it isn't VW either.
• The 911's door sill is far flatter, as are the seals where the window is. There is a good 3/4th inch inset between the metal and the rubber seal on the red thing.
• The shifter in the red one is way too low and far from the dash compared to the 911. It barely clears the seat bolsters. The 911 is way up there. The 911 had a long throw. No angle change from it being in a different gear could account for that.

They do both have a 3 spoke wheel though.

It's just a bigger gadget really, isn't it? Just a very large PPC accessory!

THAT's why most folk come here I guess - first for the gadgets & tech news, then for the community.
