Can't seem to sync new Toshiba 405 to either my laptop(winME) or desktop(win98). Both systems are usb ports. The device can't be detected on either of my computers. This Toshiba is replacing a HP1910 that died yesterday. My wife is DESPERATE trying to regain her lost contacts and calendar. TIA Ernie

Ok Step one, have you installed the version of ActiveSync that came with your new e400?

Exactly my idea... :) And leave the CD in your PC as you dock your PPC for the first time, so the new-device-wizard can look there for the USB driver which you are probably missing right now...

I did install the 3.7 that came with the Toshiba. The software tries to connect and sync but the computer doesn't recognize the device. I did leave the CD in the drive while this was going on. I even uninstalled the old sync software and installed the new one on the CD. The USB just won't 'grab' the device. Thanks, Ernie

You might want to, go into Device Manager and look for an unknown device, and if you find one. Right click on it and select remove. If you did not have the drivers available when you first connected, you may have the unknown device, that will prevent it from being found now.

The Toshibas require for you to go to the Toshiba website and download the driver for the USB port. You are not the only one experiencing this problem with the Toshiba models.
1. install the activesync that came with your model.
2. go to toshiba website and download the driver.
3. install the driver and then restart your machine. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONNECT THE USB PORT UNTIL YOU HAVE DONE THESE THINGS FIRST OR IT WILL NOT RECOGNIZE IT.
4. now plug in your cable to the usb port and allow it to recognize it. It may take a minute but it will work.
5. ENJOY YOUR TOSHIBA :)

My wife came in. I removed the 3.7 activesync and reinstalled again--left the CD in the drive. Plugged the USB in and whamo! It recognized the device and synched. Now my wife doesn't have to key in 200 contacts! Thanks to all the suggestions. I love this site. Ernie
