Hello

Is there anything better than the lame piece of software called ActiveSynch that ships ith the iPAQ?

Problems:

1) Backup PDA, then restore. Now Activesynch thinks it is a new device. It recognises that there is a partnership, but thinks all the data is different. I can Replace all on the device, or merge. Replace all on the device is OK if I have just done a synch to outlook, but if I did this out in the field, it makes me nervous that I will loose data. Merge creates so many duplicates that I spend ages deleting duplicate tasks, contacts, and calendar items. The repeating calendar and task items are the hardest.

2) Every now ant then the synch seems to go astray. I loose items I entered in the PDA, and other duplicates appear.

3) On the iPAQ, I get a remonder. I say I want it to remind me in 2 hours. Then I immediately synch the iPAQ with the PC, and the reminders all pop up again on the iPAQ. It is really annoying having to clear all the reminders every time I synch. In fact, I wish I would only be reminded of events using the iPAQ. I am really not sure what is supposed to happen when I clear the reminder from the PC, and set it to 2 hours on the iPAQ and synch. I would assume it should either keep the two different reminder settings I have set, or ask me which one to keep. I have never been asked which reminder is correct...

4) Possibly worst of all is the fact that periodically I get Activesynch saying there is a modification to an item both on the iPAQ and the PC. Most of these are bogus. I almost never update both devices for an item. Now it asks me which one to keep. There is no details to base my decision on. I must open the item in the iPAQ, and the PC myself, and see what the difference is. I should be able to click on the iem in Activesynch, and it should show me a side by side comparison of every field. Modified fields should show up red. And the ability to view only modified fields would be helpful. Then I have something to base the decision on.

Please help me with suggestions of better synch software.

Thank you
David

I haven't had most of these issues but to correct

I wish I would only be reminded of events using the iPAQ.

you'll have to open Outlook on the PC, go to Tools -> Options -> Other tab -> Advanced Options button -> Reminder Options button and uncheck Display the reminder.

Then you'll only get the reminders on your Pocket PC.

there is a program called pocketbackup or something like that. it lets you backup your pda's data to a storage card.
if you copy the backup program's installer to the card as well, you can restore anywhere you like.

or was it sbpbackup?

You're thinking of Sprite Backup (http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite_backup.html) (formerly Pocket Backup) from Sprite Software (www.spritesoftware.com). It also has the ability to create self-executing (ie, .exe) backups so copying the installer to a storage is no longer necessary.
