Then it works like the default one: restrict the access to your Pocket PC both in the device and via ActiveSync connection."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20031202-screenpowerup.jpg" /><br /><br />Items you can display:<br />• Fullscreen background (you can use your own)<br />• Calendar, time, battery, memory information<br />• Outlook appointments, plans and tasks<br />• Phone calls and SMS (on Phone Edition devices)<br /><br />Be <i><b>absolutely</b></i> sure you remove standard Pocket PC password protection before even installing this app or you could be forced to do a hard reset since this screen will cover the password entry screen. There is a fully functional trial. It costs $11.25. I couldn't find any info on what Pocket PC versions are supported.

On PocketGear it says that it supports PPC2002 and WM2003. Good advice regarding removing password before installation - shame it cant be a little more error friendly and detect password set and halt installation - need to make these things idiot proof if possible!

I stumbled across a program called "Nice Start" which looks equally as interesting. It may be worth a look as well. Check out http://www.trancreative.com/nicestart.aspx for more information.

Here is a screenshot from their website:

Nice Start certainly looks nice, but I've found their customer support to be very slow indeed.

In addition, I wanted to use it to lock my PPC whilst I'm away from my desk, without having to turn it off. However, due to a problem they've found with it locking the PPC if a popup appointment occurs, this is no longer possible. In order to get Nice Start to display you have to turn the PPC off an on again. See their forum (http://www.trancreative.com/discussion/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=6&amp;TopicID=238&amp;PagePosition=1) for discussion (and evidence of the speed of response).

My big problem with Pocket PCs is the touch screen becomes active when appointments and incoming messages occur. If the device is rattling against something in my bag or pocket, it will never turn off, it will change the time, appts, contacts. annoying!

A program like these could fix this for me. It would need three changes.
1) The entry code should be easy, four presses is fine but the resolution must be such that I don't have to look at the device. Each corner in some sequence would work.
2) Most important: It can't start a "siren" when the input fails. How annoying to have a siren go off while the phone is in your pocket!
3) it'd be great if the program sent a VK_OFF after three failed attempts, automatically turning itself off and saving battery life (in my usage of the product).

I'd pay for these programs with just those mods.

A case usually sorts that out and reduces the risk of scratching too - I never have these problems as the screen doesnt get pressed unless I want it to.

A good idea for those with nimble fingers.

But I want to be able to glance at the screen and quickly see my calendar and messages, date/time etc. I also want to one handed dial, etc. I don't have nimble fingers.

And yes, my screen is quite scratched, but it works fine :-)

The advertisements in the top right are Macromedia flash. On the plus side, if you don't load Flash, you can't read their ads! :D

I can announce, that I just uploaded Touch Password Protection to 2.0. version. Fixes and more features, better messages and events collection.

Plus I give a freeware: Touch Activities as the Today Screen item. It looks like the above one.

I was seriously looking at your software until I found out you also make a sex related program. I'm not going to support any company that writes that kind of software.

Call me prude or whatever you want, I just thought you should know that you lost a potential sale because of one of your other products.

Okay, cool idea! I like that the siren is optional.

I went ahead and installed the trial. Now I'm kicking myself in the head

:!: UNINSTALL DOES NOT WORK :!:

Try this out on a demo PPC before you put it on your "everydayer". I'm looking at a hard reset now to get my old password protection back. Duh!

A few things to improve in the product:

1) On my TMo PPC PE the password protection *only* kicks on after a soft reset. No amount of onning and offing or waiting around will ever show me that pretty password screen. I suspect it's a bug specific to my set-up.

2) The "enter password" screen needs much help! There is no Cancel button. It is trivial to get stuck in a loop where you don't know what you pressed, but the device won't move on until you "reenter it to make sure you remember." I didn't remember! A soft reset cured that. Also, clcking in the corners during password training has unexpected results. The app gets sent to the background, the input method chooser pops up.

Once again, I love the concept, but I'd DEFINITELY DO A BACKUP before trying this one.

Ouch!

I just looked at the web site and didn't see any sex related program...

Which program are you referring to???

Steve

EDIT: Never mind, I saw it (It is not listed on the website only at PocketGear)...

Removing the program is not that difficult, but I was not able to get the program to install. Well... kinda... I'm not sure.. it shows up in my "Remove Programs" but I do not see it in the settings of my Today Screen... I am assuming that is where I would find it, in the items section...? Like other plug-ins I would assume I could check or uncheck it..?

I have a Hp2210 and the program though loaded... (I think) is not showing up... my password icon has been removed so I assume that it is in.

Anyone..?

No, it shows replaces your start->settings->password protection item.

Yes, it shows up in add remove programs, but removing it doesn't actually work for me.

The worse thing is, infrared sync has been broken ever since I installed it. It's *mighty* annoying.

But I keep waiting for that T-Mobile 2003 update to be released so I have a second reason to do a hard reset. (Of course I'm only assuming a hard reset will fix the uninstall problem -- we'll see).

The file that is keeping you from uninstalling is the mytoday.ttf font in the /windows/font directory... just use explorer to rename it to mytoday.ttt and then delete it.. then you should be able to use the uninstaller...

Actually my Password icon disappears when I load in Touch Password. So.............. that's not it, anyone else..?
