The Google Deskbar thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=182319) made me wonder how many of you have room on your task bar to give up for the new utility. I don't. This is my taskbar.

Sorry, but the nature of this thread means it won't be mobile friendly and even desktops will need to scroll.
Outlook 2003 is always running, but the other 10+ apps change depending on whether I am at home or work (this is a laptop.) The last toolbar on the top row is my desktop flyup menu. Across the bottom is my Application toolbar which has Desktop, WMP9, Office 2003 apps (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, FrontPage, OneNote), Money 2004, Textpad, Calculator, eWallet, ListPro, PaintShop Pro 8, Animation Shop 3, HanDBase, Citrix and (not shown - use chevron) Task Scheduler, Windows Explorer. Then there is my Internet Toolbar which is showing 3 Forte Agent servers. The flyup on that has 7 more Agent servers (come on multiple server support Agent 2.x!!!) FTP Explorer, Audibe Manager and Internet Explorer. Finally, Window Media Player 9 when it is minimized. :)
So where would I possibly put the Google Desktop Bar? I wish it would fit under the dead area under the start bar.

Perhaps you could drag some of your toolbars off the taskbar and make them into their own toolbars on the desktop on the sides of your screen.
And quite frankly, I reckon these Google bars and whatever bars that they have for the desktop and browser are just resource-hoggers, etc. etc. 0X

Ed, I'm disappointed.....you still have room for SETI@Home in your tray.....
As far as resouces, I did a quick monitor of the Google taskbar......no CPU when not active and only 500K of sysetem memory....not too bad.....

I have over 25,000 units in my SETI@Home account. :D I just don't run it on my laptop. Even at low priority, it messes with outlook.

Whew.....I once again hold you in the highest esteem....you had me scared for a minute there, but since you have roughly 10x more packets crunched than I do, you're back in my good graces!!

Ed, dont you mean Office 2004? Office 2003 Pro (We have) doesnt have OneNote. (Or is it added on after?)

It's considered an Office 2003 application even though it's not included in most (all?) of the Office bundles.

Seeing has how Office 2003 has just come out, we're definitely not talking about Office 2004.

Justin, OneNote is part of the Office System 2003 family but it isn't bundled with any Office package that I know of, just like Visio and Project. You have to buy them separately.

Interesting.....I'm wondering how many PPC users are also crunching SETI packets.....I see a poll forthcoming......
I'd also be curious how many PC's folks are using with the SETI screensaver in a single location.....hmmmm.....
Thanks!

Ah ha! I see, thanks Ed and Janak. So we have the latest office, 2003 Pro, but not with the latest addons, we have Visio but not OneNote or project (none of which I would use) so, its all good :D

P.S - How do you take screenshots of your Taskbar? Do you hit Print screen and then edit the file in Photoshop or something?

Yeah. Drives me nuts that PaintShop Pro won't capture the task bar area.

Actually, OneNote isn't that much use unless you have a Tablet PC, because you can scribble lecture notes or conference notes on it etc.
So don't go out rushing to buy it unless you have use for it.
I have to say though...I'm quite happy about the updated Outlook 2003 interface. Everything else hasn't changed dramatically. More of an evolutionary, rather than a revolutionary upgrade. New colour icons though ^_^!

I disagree. OneNote allows you to quickly open a sidenote instantly and take rough note, it is totally searchable and substantially more powerful than Outlook Notes. A Tablet PC absolutely allows you to use OneNote to its fullest, but I've been using it with my docked laptop (so using at as a desktop) and have really started to enjoy it. I can get a SideNote going there faster than I can turn my iPAQ on and take notes.
Now, give me a Pocket PC version of OneNote that syncs with the desktop and we'll be rocking!

Dave! Nice editor choice. I rarely use it anymore, but it's still a pretty nice app.

Hey...if I click on an open piece of task bar then do an alt-print screen then open MS Paint and paste I get the taskbar!

Here's a twist for ya...
I moved my Task Bar from the bottom to the left side in order to allow for maximum vertical landscape, which is much more valuable to me than horizontal landscape (esp on a 17" monitor).
As a result, I have some interesting options...
1) I can see many more application tabs before the begin to group
2) I can double the width of the Task Bar, thereby increasing the number of Quicklaunch icons, without impacting the space on the running apps tool bar
3) I can install the Google Search bar with zero impact on the running apps tool bar :)
4) I can show the system time without losing valuable Notification bar space
Couple of notes, I lock the Task bar to remove the seperators, and I hide unnecessary icons in the Notification bar.
Quick Launch Bar: Desktop, File Exp, MSN Mess, CodeWallet, Quicken, iTunes, WMP, MusicMatch Jukebox, MSN Mess Exchange, Outlook, Business App, IE, Specific Notepad Doc, Specific Excel Doc, Screen Saver Launch
Running Apps: Outlook (2 windows), IE (2-5 windows), Word, Excel, iTunes, MSN Mess, Quicken, File Exp (1-2 windows)
Notification Icons...to much stuff to list
:way to go:

Here's an interesting hack:
1) Download the Google Deskbar, install it, enable it... But set it as small as possible.
2) Go into it's options
3) Add a customized search as follows:
3a) Name = [whatever. I use Gmail]
3b) URL = www.gmail.com
3c) Shortcut = [whatever. I use G]
4) Ok
5) Ok
Now do a ctrl-alt-G then ctrl-[whatever you set in 3c above]
Nifty, huh?

Fairly typical taskbar for me. X-Chat, WinSCP for file transfers on the NYLF IRC site I'm working on, AIM window with many IM conversations, three explorer folders, and Firefox with many tabs open. Outlook runs minimized in the system tray.
