i have a intel PXA250 in my h3970...
1. is this an xScale Processor
2. if it is... i have heard/seen you can scale the cpu speed to higher or lower just from a menu bar in the settings
3. is this possible without braking my kit

Yes it's an XScale, and yes there should be a menu setting where you can select the speed, it's built in to the OS and the chip is meant to be able to do that, no damage at all.

Some people use Pocket Hackmaster to get more control, this is PROBABLY safe, though running it faster then it was meant to can shorten the life of your processor, however it could void your warantee.

I don't have an Ipaq so I don't know if I can help you. On mine it's under Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Processor

Yes, it's a XScale, but you'll need a 3rd party software to do this. There are options to control speed in some models, including new Toshibas, but not on the H3970.

The iPAQs do not have a built-in software to control the CPU speed. Also most of the PPCs I've seen with the software only slows down the CPU from its' original speed. Third party software will "scale" the CPU up beyond its' default speed.

Pocket Hack Master from Anton Tomov will let you scale from 100Mhz upto 472Mhz on that device.

You can either manually select the speeds OR you ca program 4 scale steps. And let it adjust the speed automatically and seamlessly depending on the processor load.

So when you reading your mail, down to 100Mhz to save battery, then you fireup pocket quake and here comes the full 472Mhz, This can also overclock the memory bus from the default 100Mhz to make things all that smoother, does other stuff as well.

I use TuroTray from Elevatedstudios (www.elevatedstudios). Just tap the small icon in the menubar and it steps up/down. No problem.
