Us iPaq 3600 owners are out of luck then I guess? Well, have had my faithful iPaq serve me long enough for me to complain so...

I am just waiting for a Pocket PC 2003 Phone Edition device to come out. :) :)

Look on the bright side, maybe this will give the software vendors time to release PPC2003 ready versions of their software so that when the UK PPC2003 release is available most of the glitches will have been worked out...

Comp USA here in the Chicago, IL suburbs still say they won't have the 5555 until the end of July. They already have the 2215 but don't even know about a 5100 yet.

On-topic: I successfully ordered my upgrade to WM2003 kit from HP's website yesterday. :alfdance:

And you believed them? Sometimes that's what they will tell you when they are not exactly sure. Mine has said that they have shipped and they should be recieving them soon. It is not in yet (as of yesterday). They also told me the recieve most of their shipments on Monday or Tuesday and also Thursday and Friday. If it's not in today, I will keep watch.

They probably told you that because it's true. They will have them by the end of the month for sure, but odds are they will get them sooner rather than later. This it what it looks like to me.

Why so long for the 3800 series update?

Ummm, online *ordering* is already occuring. Indeed, I ordered my $29.95 PPC 2003 upgrade for the 54xx series from HP on Sunday. Here's the thread on Brighthand that tipped me off:

http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82837

Read the thread carefully, as only some of the links further down it it were working (at the time of the posts). However, a number of the links in that thread *were* working by Sunday (specifically the link posted by BEastmaster), and I've already ordered my (US English) 54xx series PPC 2003 upgrade, order confirmation # and all.

When will they actually ship? Now that's a good question

Has anyone heard if HP plans to have an upgrade for the Jornada 568?? I plan on purchasing a new Pocket PC, but in the meantime, it would be nice to use the new operating system.

Thanks

I just picked up my 5555 in Los Angeles (CompUSA). They had the 2215 also.

Why so long for the 3800 series update?

Probably because HP knows that it's killing people like me to wait and we'll probably break down and buy a new device rather than wait it out.

The key factor for me will be the performance of the 5450 with PPC2003. If it is significantly improved there is little advantage to the 5550 upgrade (though 128MB RAM would be nice).

And I would be able to continue using Nevo.

My upgrade order lists a "suggested" ship date of 7-28-03. I'm not expecting much though. Whenever it gets here, I'm a patient person.

I was into the CompUSA store yesterday and that's what they told me. However, a friend of mine that works at a different CompUSA stopped over last night for the weekly geek-to-gether a few of us participate in and said he's been watching the shipments that come in very closely as he is looking to get a 5555 also.

Unless HP changes its mind, no, there will not be an upgrade for the Jornadas.

CompUSA in Salt Lake City, Utah has the iPAQ 5555 in stock for $650 (the demo unit plus one boxed behind glass is what I saw). I have previously played with a 54xx device there, and the 5555 didn't seem much faster--seemed like an annoying delay between tapping and the start menu appearing. That was even after a soft reset. I hope it performs at least something like the 22xx. Any benchmarks on the 55xx around? I would have bought it there, but I'm waiting on my Amazon $600 order to come through and save me a bit.

I have my 5555! YES! Now the clone at CompUSA said theat the stock was on hold and he could not sell me one until the 15th. I told him that HP themselves and many others were ALREADY shipping and selling them and he gave me one! :D So far....so good. I don't want to get too glowing, but I love both the device and the OS.

The TAP plan is a bit different now. New freebies. Stuffbak sticker so if you loose your PDA and someone finds it you get to pay 15 bucks to get it back (I thought thats wierd, but then thats better then 650! :)) They also include some screen protectors and a beefed up stylus pen (stylus and pen). There is no CD any more which is fine as most of the disc was crap anyway.

The speaker seems louder then my e740(but still kind of sucky) and WiFi was a bit different to setup but nice (at least for my home network which I have locked down pretty good....it did detect a neighbors network just fine! :) ). Colligo, Jeode, Resco Explorer and Resco RegEdit....free trial on Vindigo.....typical iPaq freebie stuff. No Nevo....not even on the CD. Construction is pretty much the same as the 5400 series. Time will tell if any bugs crop up but I have found none thus far. Now I need my Vaja gift certificate to get my new case (included case will hold it, but it sucks as always...).

Check it out, but the HP site has pushed the upgrade availability dates to at least August, even for the English version of the 5450 that was slated for mid-July. Here we go again!

You'll generally need Chinese fonts - it was discussed to a minor extent in this thread here (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34144). Otherwise, have a look at this, (http://www.freewareppc.com/docs/textviewer2002.shtml) this, (http://www.freewareppc.com/docs/textviewer.shtml) or this.
