The adapter cable is approximately 3" long. It can also be used to convert the iPAQ 1900 series 2.5mm jack to a 3.5mm stereo output jack."

Is there a link to purchase one or is this just more of an "FYI, something like this exists"...

$12.50 each + shipping? Ouch. FYI, there is also this for $3.25 (doesn't enable the internal mic as far as I know, but provides 2.5 to 3.5 mm adapter functionality):

From http://www.pc-mobile.net/compaq.htm.

Because of the minimum credit card price, we did a group order (setup in a Brighthand thread). One guy ordered, kept one, and mailed the other adapters to the rest of us. We reimbursed him for the adapter, shipping, and his Paypal fees, which came to a total of $6.50 for each of us.

Search Brighthand and/or Ebay... I think one of the Brighthand guys ordered in bulk and is auctioning them off.

Well, I bought this adapter (not the 1910 version you got) from PC-Mobile. It's just started to flake out on me, though, to the point where I now have to twist it to get both ears working. :( I tied it tightly together in a weird twisted way, and it works for the moment, but I'd be curious to know if this one is more durable than the PC-Mobile version.

In any case, the Techs do a lower-quantity, custom production, so that might also explain why they're more expensive.

A 2.5mm jack is proprietary? It's actually the standard for all mobile phones, so I wouldn't call it proprietary...

Or is there something special about the one on the xda?

You're right, proprietary is the wrong word here. A more approriate term would be "those pain in the ass 2.5mm plugs that your normal headphones won't fit in". The end result is the same.

Realizing full well that this is PPCThoughts...I'll sheepishly ask, wonder if this would give me Mono music on both sides of my headphones on my T|C...

It is a good adapter, but only for h1910/15/20.

All ipaq h193x/194x has a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter in package.

I think so, proprietary is the wrong word here. 2.5 mm is standard same as 3.5mm. They are popular in different area.

Actually, the 2.5mm headphone jack in the HTC Wallaby/O2 XDA/T-Mobile PPC/AT&T SX-56 is proprietary compared to the 2.5mm headphone jacks in other phones. The outside looks the same but the inside is wired differently.
If you follow the discussion board forums on most websites, you will see that people have been having trouble getting a standard store-bought 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter to work on the XDA, that's why there's a need for the special PC-Mobile and PocketPCTechs' versions of the headphone adapter.

For those of you who haven't tried some of the other adapters....you can't have the best of both worlds.... nice speaker ear buds AND phone ear buds because the ones that are good speakers ear buds always disabled the mic so you had to unplug then to speak.

And the one's with built in mics don't always make good sound for music.

Apparenly until now...... if this adapter will let a good set of ear buds work like a phone headset as well (using the PPC mic) then it might be worth a little bit more.

I use the Radio 'hack adapter (which doesn't disable the mic) with a cheap set of PC speakers when at my desk with my T-mobile and it works great. The only problem is that it sticks out about two inches and is very rigid and is a hazard when using the PPC to listen to music on the go. But it is better than using the speakerphone on the PPC alone as people on the other end can hear an echo.....echo....echo....

If someone tries this out on their HTC/PPCPE - please post a reply and tell us how well it did/didn't work. :)

Thanks for using the anti-spam format. We wouldn't want any spam-bots to actually start sending messages to that legitimate-looking address.

Heh, my friend runs a mailserver, and often gets mail that was supposed to goto the HD company Maxtor. (his domain is one letter off incidentally) So someone's getting the e-mail to all the illegal addresses :P

Ok, Ok. Point taken. How 'bout proprietary pinout. No other phone out there has this pinout.

Geez..tough crowd.

It depends on where they are made and the tooling cost. We also stand behind our product and will replace it if you have any trouble with it.

Just to expand on this a little: the XDA uses a funky three-conductor 2.5mm jack. This is highly non-standard, and is designed to support stereo headphones and a microphone together in one connector.

The bad news is, the XDA's three-conductor jack and the Samsung i700's three-conductor jack are not the same. HTC's headphone connector gracefully degrades to a 2.5mm stereo headphone jack if you ignore the innermost conductor; the i700's degrades to a standard 2.5mm mono cellular headset. This means, of course, that the conductors are all swapped around. Too bad there's no standard in this formfactor, and let me not start with Compaq's decision to add an extra conductor to the 5455's 3.5mm jack!

I thought it was just an audio jack with microphone ability?

Years ago, I discovered that the left phone of certain headphones would function as a microphone when plugged into the headphone jack of a particular stereo we had, so my point may be somewhat biased by this experience.

Hmm... I don't see how the extra flavorful 3.5mm jack on the iPAQ H5450 gives anyoen any problems. I thought that was the logical path for them to take. There aren't any standards for 2.5mm stereo+mic headset jacks out there, and HP's 3.5mm jack works perfectly with normal 3.5mm headphones or speakers. This way, the ability to add an extra stereo+mic headset is actually a bonus and not a flaw.

Do we need to look at doing our PPCPADPT01 for the 5400?

lwesson, how do I shop for these accessories on your website? The only way I could find PPCPADPT01 was to edit the url by hand.

Oh, there it is if I go to the RAM upgrade page! :confused totally:
I guess you are in the RAM business and not the accessory business. Or maybe a site navigation update is forthcoming?

It's just that it's there but poorly-supported. I wish standards for these things existed, like the pervasive mini and cellular headset standards. Leonard, you might indeed want to take a look at the 5455's jack and see if you are interested in coming up with an adapter for it. :)

Yes, I've been looking forward to this for a while now.
Be warned however, PC-Mobile attempted to do one but they got frustrated at the lack of response from the Brighthand forums and gave up making it.

Since we are now talking about the 5400  don't forget about the Plantronics accessories.

Yes, I was wondering if I needed to make a specific page for the adapters. Guess I do.

"Audio Adapters" would probably be more intuitive than "HS Adapters" in the pull-down menu. :way to go:
