I really enjoy the community here at Pocket PC Thoughts, so I was pretty excited when Jason asked me to be part of the news team (on a trial basis, of course!) It must have been meant to be - owning a Pocket PC has brought out an "inner geek" in me that was just waiting to be born this whole time; I'm more excited about technology now than I've ever been in my life.

Here's what I do when I'm not posting to Pocket PC Thoughts: I work as an executive administrative assistant for a large Midwestern bank. I spend a lot of my spare time reading books, keeping up with world events, maintaining my two blogs, and reading other peoples' blogs. When not geeking out on my own, I like to geek out with my friends and take advantage of Minneapolis' many cultural and recreational activities, including rock concerts, movies, art museums, and our lovely parks and beaches. (Lake beaches, that is. I understand people who live by the ocean don't consider lakes to be "real" beaches!)

My first PDA ever is the one I own now, an HP iPAQ 1910. I've wanted a Pocket PC ever since I first laid eyes on one over a year ago. Once I finally was able to get one, I fell in love. I use my 1910 for everything - reading, keeping up with the news, listening to music, playing games and - yes - staying organized.

I spend a lot of time on the 'Net, which is probably half the reason I was asked to come on board! I've learned so much from PPCT; I just hope that I can help other PPC users learn some neat stuff.

You have been honoured. Congrats. I've read some of your posts and you should have no problem becoming a superb news poster.

P.S. By the way and off topic, I am a huge Prince fan and wanted to ask and find out if true that most people in the area don't really care for him and that he is a little weird.

True?

P.S. By the way and off topic, I am a huge Prince fan and wanted to ask and find out if true that most people in the area don't really care for him and that he is a little weird.

True?

Well, yeah, he is a little weird. I'm not saying this from personal experience, it's just pretty well-documented.

As for not caring for him, well, I once read a column that said living in the same town as Prince is like living in the same town as an ex-lover. You just don't have the option of ignoring him, 'cause you're constantly running into him. The "Prince awareness level" around here is a constant low-grade hum....

No wait, those are the power lines.

One cool thing about being from the same town as Prince is that bands that come through here often do Prince covers in their shows, which is always fun. I saw Ani DiFranco do a cover of "When Doves Cry" - it was great. That and Bob Dylan covers.

If you want to do it yourself, you can just re-register under a new member name, then let us know that you want us to delete the old one. However, if you want to keep your post numbers and stuff unchanged, send me a private message, letting me know what you want it changed to, and I'll do it for you.

Welcome to the asylum, Crystal!
Now that it's official, I guess it's time we shared some of the Team's unwritten rules with you:

• By tradition, the newest Team member sends a Secret Santa gift to each of the other Team members -- every month.
• We never make fun of Brad or his ScotteVest; we all value his opinions and want to show him the appropriate level of respect.
• Never get Ed mad at you; he can get even in ways you cannot imagine.
• Each Monday morning at 6:00am MST, all Team members face Calgary, genuflect and sing "O Canada." Twice.
• Every now and then, Team members are expected to start a flame war in one of the threads, just to make sure Steve is on his toes. It's your turn next.
• Marlof is still part of the Team. Nobody is really sure where he lives.
• Team members must keep a healthy balance in their lives, making sure they don't spend every waking moment working on the site. Janak is an exception.
• Diversity of opinion is highly valued, as long as we all agree on everything.
• No whining.

We are SOOOOOOOO glad to have you on the Team! It is definitely the best ride in town!

Crystal, another Minneapolis PocketPC'r! I sometimes think we're all in the closet - oh wait, that's called winter around here when we don't see new people for 6 months.
Someone asked about Prince, well he's my neighbor. His "estate" is purple, not too far from Paisley Park, and it's guarded 24/7. When he's in town you can often see him driving around in either his Prowler or his BMW. The Prowler is purple but the BM'er is white. Both have very dark tinted windows. Folks in town generally give him a wide berth as he brings quite a bit of $$ into our small suburb but you really don't see much of him. Remember, he has homes in Spain and Canada too I think. Rumor has it he's thinking of selling his property here and moving to Canada (his wife is from there).
Anyway, back on subject, CRYSTAL, I look forward to seeing your posts!

He's from here. And proud of it (unlike other "native sons" we claim for our own even though they spurned us, such as Bob Dylan and F. Scott Fitzgerald).

Welcome to the team Crystal - Nice to see another Minnesotan around, I grew up there, just can't seem to get back, keep getting moved every couple of years.

BTW, I also consider lake beaches to be "real" beaches, sometimes more fun than the larger variety, kind of compresses the activity. Also provides good access for the pickup truck to tow your ice house out onto the lake and get in some ice fishing.

"O, Canada, our home and native land!
True patriot love command,
something, something else...
We stand on guard for thee!"

Um, guess I've got some studying to do....

Maybe the real reason they're letting me try out for the news team is that Minnesota is pretty much a de facto province. We're all a buncha socialists, you know (though the current governor is doing his darndest to change that).

And the Twin Cities are actually further north than Toronto. (It's true! Look it up!)

Thanks for the kind welcome, everyone!

Would that be Jesse "The Body" Ventura, or is that another state/previous governor?

Jesse "The Body" was indeed governor here, but he stepped down after his one-and-only term because he got tired of the "media jackals" (his phrase) nipping at his heels.

Jesse was an interesting governor. He was fun to listen to on the news, because he always spoke his mind - completely un-politician-like behavior. This got him into a lot of trouble with the press, but I respected him for it (even though, many times, I did not agree with what he was saying.) Another interesting thing about Jesse was that most of the legislation he introduced was stuff that would benefit him personally, such as reducing the fees for license tabs for luxury cars.

Our current governor, Tim Pawlenty, is a Republican who, even though he barely squeaked by in a three-way race against an Independent and a Democrat, is acting like he has some kind of mandate. He's one of those new-school republicans who think all taxes are evil (completely ignoring the fact that taxes are part of the reason we enjoy such a great quality of life in Minnesota - those parks and beaches I mentioned, as well as excellent schools, museums, roads, etc.) What he doesn't understand is that quality of life is the only thing that makes Minnesotans settle and stay here - it sure ain't for the weather. Without the wonderful social and cultural institutions that make Minnesota what it is, we might as well move down to Arkansas, where at least we'll be warm (no offense to any Arkansans on this board).

Hoo! Sorry for the long-winded political rant. I'll try not to go off on tangents like this in the future. :worried: I just like to talk about politics, and talk about my great state. I'll keep this stuff on my very own blog in the future.
