View Full Version : How Many Applications Do You Have On Your Pocket PC

In the thread where we are talking about what is installed on our Pocket PCs, Duncan suggested a poll to see just how many apps we had on our devices. So, count 'em up! Don't include ROM based apps or what should be ROM based, like Reader or WMP on a 1910 or upgraded 3600. You can include upgrades though, like WMP 7 on a Pocket PC 2000 device since that didn't come with the device. Don't forget to include apps you didn't install per se, like ClearTemp, which is just an EXE that resides in your Start Up folder.

Hmmm....I have over 50 apps installed on a device that is supposedly underpowered and doesn't have enough RAM. The XDA..."The little PPC that could" :)

Whoa! Only 42. But before the upgrade to ROM 2.20, I had ~70 apps.

I have returned from the edge. :)

I voted for 21-30 but I forgot about Fitaly and Launcher which would bump me up into the 31-40 range. :microwave:

EDIT: Oops forgot 2.

I’m at 43 apps. I'm guessing the built in apps don't count so I will leave them out:

Top 4 on my PPC:

Resconet file explorer 3.9x (I won't go to 4 until I'm 100% certain it will work with PPC.NET or whatever they call it.)
Pocket Informant 3.2.1 (Again waiting until I'm 100% certain that 4 will work on PPC.NET but in the case of PI they are good about rapidly updating their software if it isn't)
Nicestart 2.0
Pelmar WISBAR
Peacemaker Pro
Cleartemps
Ipaq Overclock from Jimmysoft
Pocket Tools 2.0 (Free software that is the rough equivalent of the Windows Task Manager.)
RegKing
PHM Device Manager (You can't remove devices but there is something nice about having the same feature found on the PC on your PPC as well.
PHM Reg Editor (A must have for anyone who likes to tweak their PPC
ProgramMenu
JogButton
Powertap
Nydidtot 1.2
Remote Display Control (PPC Toy)
VXUtil
PocketDHCP
PocketCounter
TempMeasure (Yes I admit it. I suck at converting F to C. So :razzing:
Journal Bar
Battery Bar
Pocket Slides
WithMP3 (Greatest PPC MP3 player around)
Pocket DIVX
Pocket TV (Free version. No way I’m spending 50 bucks on any PPC software.)
Palm Reader Pro (All hail Palm Reader. Down with MS Reader!)
Flash Player
Pocket NES
SimCity 2000
Warring States
Chopper Alley
Snowed In
Packman (Full version from the Original CD MS sent out in the funpack)
Cubicle Chaos
Office Inspirations
CodeWallet (ver that came with the Jornada 568)
PoQuickPro 1.0 (Not as useful as I was hoping but for a buck it does its job well.)
PocketTime
Adobe Acrobat Reader
MS Pocket Streets (From MapPoint 2002)
IA Album 1.2
VBirthday

All I can say is god bless the person who invented external storage. :D

PS- If you want to find a REALLY fast way to fill up your RAM go to www.ipaqsoft.net and browse the free software listed there. You will be out spending money on a new SF or SD card within an hour.

Nah, I love my Pocket PC and my apps! :hippy:

I "only" have a little over 40 apps. The PPC can carry so much information, and so many cool little utilities. I get an excuse to play with it several times every day. It's not one toy, but many toys.

I had a recount and realised I have programs installed that I'd forgotten I had! So I'm up to 61 on my iPAQ and 52 on my Loox - however - counting different programs (don't have all the same progs on each) I have a combined total of 69! Two more programs to lose my sanity! 0X

Here's the thing though - I checked 'add/remove' on my laptop - and I can only count 31 programs there! 8O

Rapid Racer
PocketChess
Diamond Mine
PrintPocket CE (great app! :D )
Pocket Plus
Mapopolis
AIM (downloaded it when it was free  )
Remote Display Control
Pocket Plus

That's 9. :| I guess that my 32MB limit shows. :(

I was way off! I selected 21-30, I thought that would be close. I decided to count them and it turns out I've got 57! 58 if you count irchat which runs but I've never gotten to actually work.

That doesn't count built in apps or the 17 books I have installed in PocketBible. If you just count my PocketBible books that puts me up to an easy 74! If you add up money I've spent on games, applications, and other programs I'm sure I'd qualify as insane.

BTW...this is all on a Casio E-125 with a 1GB CF card!!! Long live the e125!!! Bricks Rule! hehehe

When I look at the "Remove Programs" applet, I have about 31 and then there are few others that were installed but don't show in the "Remove Programs" applet (such as a backlight applet that simply flicks the backlight on and off).

However, I have another 20+ programs that were installed on a previous installation onto my Storage Card and I was able to run them again directly from the card despite not having installed them directly on my current installation. Somewhere between 50-60 which shocked me b/c I consider myself a minimalist.

At least with Pocket PCs, you can still physically be a minimalist. :) I've started heading that route too, though. Too many desktops that can't easily be moved from one place to anoher. With a notebook or similar, it's fairly easy. Now I just need the money...

Whoohooo! My type of gamer! I have about 200 games installed and about 30 apps on a microdrive. To have those apps and run movies and mp3s, I use a 2gig pc card. But to achieve the minimalist effect, I stick with the microdrive. I guess I still haven't grown up!

Depending on how you count, I have 63 installed on my iPAQ 3870. I didn't count purely hardware drivers, like the Stowaway and MicroKeyboard ones, and I only counted CT Cards as one, even though it installs 8 games. That of course doesn't count all of the applications that I've downloaded but never installed.

That reminds me -- I guess I should go install that free Euchre program I got yesterday. :-D

When I counted... I ended up with something like 54 or so... I had more before but then there were newer apps that had multiple functionality...

So out went some of the apps to be replaced by these newer ones. :D

When I purchased Resco Explorer after I upgraded my ROM it had a regedit and a zip tool incorporated into it, so I didn't bother installing either of the ones I had before.

When I first got my PPC (HP Jornada 548) I was a Utility junkie 'cause I wanted to keep it working in top shape.

I just always wanted to be able to do on my PPC what I could do on my desktop. I find myself using my PPC now more than my desktop. Come to think of it my PPC has crashed less than my PC even with me installing and uninstalling as much as I do.

Just curious - which 4? I have 3 - but the NASEC is only so I can get the Strongs Numbers. I never read from it. The rest of what I have loaded is available through the URL in my sig.
