Has anyone had an trouble getting this to work on their e740? Has anyone gotten it to work at all. I can get as far as seeing satellite numbers (all 8 of them) in the little black boxes, but when I DO get a power level (blue bar above the black box) it goes away pretty quickly. I've never gotten more than one, either. The server program says COM1 on it, and the monitor program also says COM1, but it's grayed out so that I can't change it. The server program looks a bit different than in the PDF manual too.
Anyone here have a Pretec CompactGPS-LP?

Problem solved, well somewhat.
My problem was due to the extremely long startup time on the LP version of Pretec's GPS. I'm working to trade it in from the regular version (CompactGPS). If anyone else is considering purchasing the CompactGPS-LP, I would suggest reconsidering. Unless you have PLENTY of time to get set up. I don't want to sound down on Pretec. They make good products. The LP GPS just isn't a good solution. Spend the extra money and get the real CompactGPS.

What do you use the GPS for? Is it useful? I've thought about getting GPS to have access to the Internet any where I go. I don't really need it for navigation since I usually can find a paper map which is easier to use than a PDA Screen.

I'm not quite sure what kinda GPS you are using, but there's no internet connection you can get with GPS in itself. GPS is a navigation system using satellites launched by the US Air Force. The satellites transmit data and your GPS receiver receives only.
As for what I would use it for: I'm living in Germany and it would be easier to have a GPS for location tracking, since the autobahns aren't labeled the same as US Interstates (what I'm used to). I'd like to have an electronic maps on my trips around Europe.
