What's in store for the Axim at Dell?<br /><br />"One audience member asked if the Round Rock, Texas company's recently launched PDAs (personal digital assistants) would soon ship with 802.11b wireless LAN installed. They will in the future, Dell said, but for now users have to use one of the expansion slots on the device to get wireless capability, just like Dell does himself."<br /><br />Can you say X7? :D Now I want to see an ad with Steven running through the airport, leaping over luggage, with his Axim in one hand screaming "Dude! Don't let the plane take off without me!"

Ok, that would be cool, I'm sure Dell would make it mind numbingly cheap too! :)

I have to admit, I am a little biased, but the "Dell dude" is so lame it makes me want to gag. Seriously, please tell me that you guys are laughing *at* these ads and not with them! ;)

I can't say I love the Dell Dude but the new Intern Commercials are WORSE!

Some might say that they are having trouble with their marketing? Good product, crap marketing, I'm sure they'll get by though.

The Dell Dude has been hugely popular, and he is back. Just saw a new ad earlier this week.

I think Dell is sort of laughing at themselves with the ad. Those intern things are a flop. They are not memorable. Besides us geeks, ask someone if they have seen them then ask if they know what company they advertise for. Most won't know.

I like the idea of a Steven commercial of him running through an airport with an electronic gadget in his hand screaming.

Then, obviously, Federal employees can shoot him in the face.

Dude, you're getting a (jail) CELL!

How much do you think they'll sell it for? Right now, you could get a X5 Advanced with a $40 Wi-Fi CF adapter... so, how much does integrated add to the value of the device?

I'd probably pay $375 for an X7 assuming all they add is the wireless

*Whines* But what about the X3!??!?!!?!? I want to see what Dell can do to counter the iPaq 1910.

Devices aside when do you guys thing these kiosks will show up? I REALLY want to check out the Dell X5 and to date I haven't even seen one IRL. If it means talking a trip down to the Minneapolis International Airport (Or hopefully the Mall of America) to touch one so be it.

I just bought a dell an Inspiron 8200 laptop. WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!

Ok, that's just an understatement. They immediately put a hold on your credit card, but never send you an email about when the product will ship. I had to send them 3 separate emails and STILL no response.

Finally, the unit sat in their "boxing" phase for 12 days, during which time their forum moderator said, "Don't pay attention to the phases on the Order Status page, they're just to give you an idea of where your unit is."

OK, HOW IS THAT LOGICAL OR USEFUL??? They put a status on a page and it's not to be paid attention to, so why put it there???

Finally, the unit shipped and it took me 2 or 3 more days to get a tracking number. Finally, when I got a tracking number the order was at my door. And the forum moderator said, "Here is your tracking number and I see it was delivered 10 minutes ago."

WHO THINKS GIVING A TRACKING NUMBER FOR A DELIVERED UNIT IS USEFUL???

I had to drive into work every day to have the car to take the unit home since I work in NYC and I didnt' have a bag to take the unit home in.

My wife bought a 2650 Inspiron, went back 2 weeks after she got it, it wouldn't boot up. Finally, instead of replacing the unit, Dell said, "Keep the hard drive and send us the computer, we'll replace the motherboard, the CPU heat sensor, the CPU, and RAM." WHAT ELSE IS LEFT??? WHY NOT JUST REPLACE THE THING???

If you go to the www.dellcustomercare.com Website, you will see that there are just too many unsatisfied really po'd customers to ignore.

It's amazing, Dell USED to be a good company.

Sorry Sanjay, sounds like you got hosed with a 6" steel reinforced rubber hose - when the sound connector busted off in my Inspiron 8000 (my own fault too) I called them up, they sent out a tech to my house to replace it, free of charge. What's that, you say? You didn't get the 3 year onsite warranty for $100 upgrade? Sorry.

Out of all the times I've delt with Dell, I've only had 2 times where the service was poor - that's a lot better record than I've had with the phone company for my DSL.

The inspiron is a remarkable piece of crap. Had one, never will again.

The Latitude, on the other hand, is a wonderful device. Had 4, on #5 and waiting until I can get #6. :-)

I did a lot of reading on the Dell forums. I have the necessary warranties. The unit (my wife's) was only 2 weeks old. When it started to act up, the only option they would give her was not to replace it but to send it back and replace all the parts inside the thing.

The thing that was most annoying was that the tech support said the CPU overheating and causing the 2650 to reboot was a known issue. That being said, why ship it out if it's broken and known to be broken?

The 8200 has a problem with Speedstep. There's a 45 page thread on the Dell forums. Basically the 8200s are set to run automatically at 1.2GHz while they're selling 2.0. So, even if you set the necessary adjustments in the BIOS, the 8200 still only operates at 1.2 rather than 2.x GHz.

Dude, you may be getting a Dell... Next time, I'm getting something else.

Even though I own not a single thing with an apple on it, Steven is nothing compared to the magic which is named Feiss! (http://www.apple.com/switch/ads/ellenfeiss.html)

Theres a problem with the SpeedStep in the BIOS? Damn, I got the 1.9ghz 8200, and didnt know why it was rather slow. I cant seem to find the link in the forum though about the BIOS Fix though.

Axim X7 will be $350. Thats my guess, and im sticking to it.

I like the Steven guy. Hes funny,

Ok, look, I understand that *some* people like the "Dell dude", I'm philisophical about it now, some people like miniture poodles. :P

Seriously though, you like what you like, I have no objection, all I will say is this:

Ed, I hadn't thought of it that way, It's almost like Dell is making fun of their customers but I'm sure that's not it. IMO it's kind of like the Apple switch ads, they seem to be making fun of their switchers with the really lame music, they could have at least picked something cool. I'm a mac user but I hate the music in those ads. :)

rlobrecht, when I click on the link I get

You have asked for a page that does not exist on Dell.com

There may be a typo or misspelling in the URL you have entered.

I would really like to know where these kiosks are - I would like an X5 as soon as possible and don't know anyone in the States to ship me one. Being able to pick one up in the airport would be great. :D

OK - found the existing kiosks - at: http://www.dell.com/us/en/dhs/topics/segtopic_pa_kiosk.htm

Now just to wait for the airport ones to turn up.

Regardless of how people feel about him and the commercials, the fact that everyone imitates guy when talking about a Dell means the marketing is acheiving one of the most important goals of any campaign... that's to make sure they leave a lasting impression in your head (even if it's one you can't stand).
