T3 Magazine, a UK hybrid between Maxim and Maximum PC, recently published an article on the top 10 PDA Web sites out there. infoSync came in first, PDA Buzz second, and Pocket PC Thoughts third. I'm thrilled that we're the only pure Pocket PC site on their list. :D

Special thanks to David Horn for taking the time to scan the pages in!

IMHO PDAavenue is much better than PDAbuzz. A lot more people and activity.

I can only believe daBuzz made it #2 on content that was there before the ax fell.

Congrats to the team!

As I mostly read Thoughts on my PPC I'm truly looking forward to see the complete site PIE enabled.

Yeah... i don't think PDAbuzz should be above ppc thoughts... maybe while Wes was there though... i think the reason ppc thoughts didn't beat pdabuzz was because the other sites are on PDAs in general (both palm and ppc) while this site is focused soley on PPC w/ interesting palm news only...

Anyway, congrats!

BTW, anyone know what brighthand scored? I think BH is better than PDAbuzz after wes left...

I do not own a PPC since I've always been a Palm guy. I have to say though, that this is by far the best PDA site I have come across and I think I have checked them all.

There is always something new, even in those times when most sites can't even invent news. You people that run the site obviously work hard to find some interesting content and everything is well written, without the Palm bashing (at least not too much!) that is on other PPC sites.

I read the news here at least once a day and I always enjoy it.

I've been struggling for the last few months to find a replacement for my trusty Palm vx. The Tungsten T is just so expensive (makes the 5450 seem a good price) and the NX70 is stuck with the dumb Memory Stick. Who knows, maybe a 5450 or an Axim with Agenda Fusion will be the way to go.

Great site guys, keep up the good work!!

Cheers!!
David

Wow, Congrats Jason and team! You all do a great job.

IMHO, I agree with pt (on the sites, not the shift key ;-)) - You guys and InfoSync should be right up there together at the top. PDABuzz was good before Wes left, but since then it just hasn't been the same. Then again, that is a whole other discussion isn't it? :?

Congratulations!

FWIW, I found this site on a google search a few weeks ago when I was looking for more info on that new Dell Axim. Now, this is the one site that I absolutely check in on every day. My Axim is on order, my palm will probably be going up on Ebay, and I've already purchased a program and learned about several others from the stories and discussion forum here.

I'm hooked.

Next to my web e-mail client, this is the site I most often visit. Probably 4x a day. Why?

1) Great people have designed and manage the site!
2) No fanatics! Great community here. I've seen nothing but intelligent, respectable postings.
3) Superior news and delivery format.

I've given up on other PDA sites. They just don't deliver as well as you guys do.

I'm also kinda Palm InfoCenter is as high up there as it is. Since Ed (their Ed, not the Thoughts Ed) moved to brighthand, I have not liked it as well. Maybe it is just me though.

No, people there have been ranting on Ryan; whether it's appropriate or not I don't care to judge. And that's offtopic, so I'll stop on that note ;)

In any case, remember that these ratings come from reputation, which is part of the reason the Buzz is high-up. A nice way to look at it is that PPCT has had a good reputation for a while too. :)

I made this site my personal home page ever since PDABuzz went belly-up. I go there maybe once a month or so to see if anything noteworthy has changed... and it never has. This is my favorite site by far!

I was kind of surprised at that too. Perhaps it's because of BH's low news volume?

Although i am a Palm user (mainly by virtue of being a Mac user too - for my sins) I find PPC to be one of the best web sites available. The content is always interesting and the levels of discussion of a really high quality.

I always check in every day, at least once.

Yeah really. I hadn't thought of that. I don't visit there very often, but when I do they always have some good articles and things. And Janak said possibly because of the low news volume, but Handango and Palmgear are mainly software sites, not much in the way of news there (besides the press releases published by the software companies). Maybe they have just lost their flare or something, although I can't think of a reason why. Actually I can think of several sites I would start putting into the list above Handango, including Brighthand and Pocket PC Passion.

As for what Janak said about reputation, I guess that is true. Sites like Buzz and PIC have been around so long, people just know them well. Even if things do change, the site is still known well by many many people.

And now I'll shut up and get some sleep. :-)

others on my list:

pocket pc passion (surprised it wasn't their list).
pda geek
clie source
the-gadgeteer
gizmodo
brighthand

a couple of those are not 100% pda, but daily stops.

Oh wow, I'm not the only one awake after all. ;-)

Yes, the gadgeteer is a great site, not totally PDA related though, which is possibly why it isn't there. PDA Geek is nice, but it just doesn't really appeal to me that much. Clie Source and Gizmodo, never heard of them. And the others I already covered...

Now then, I'm going to sleep now, really I am!

Well, I know lots of people have said this already, but I think PPCThoughts is much better than PDABuzz. They have about 3 or 4 updates a week, PPCThoughts have 3 or 4 updates a day.

Way to go PPC Thoughts!!!!!!!!! Maybe even higher next year!

I only look at T3 occasionally but most of the Mags are a couple of months out of date by the time it's all been printed etc. For example one of the UK phone mags has just written a great comparative review of the Orange SPV and the Sendo Microsoft based phone!!!! Duh! :?

(They recommended people should buy the Sendo!)

I suspect PDABuz, therefore, is the "old" version.

Thanks for the nice comments about Brighthand. I suspect we didn't make the list because, until October, Brighthand wasn't serious about daily news. That was just three months ago and three months is a fairly short amount of time for a print magazine. It wouldn't surprise me if that list was made up months and months ago and is just now getting published. That's why we all love the Web; no multi-month lead times on articles.

Congrats to Jason and the gang,
-Ed

-Ed

Very good of you. :D

I really would have expected pocket pc passion, the-gadgeteer and especially brighthand to have at least made it into the top 10! "The website formerly run by Wes Salmon" had a good reputation, but after he left it's not worth visiting at all. It should not even be in the top 10. :?

Congrats again Jason - it shows that good work is (belatedly) recognised.

IMHO, I think Pocket PC thoughts towers above all the other sites. You have hit on the right formula and it is original and unlike any of the others.

I know that I visit this site daily and am always rewarded. I rank it #1, period!

Congrats to a hell of a good site!

Congrats guys. You deserve this and more!

As for BH not making the list, maybe it has to do with the problems they have had in the past. It looks like Steve is trying to change things, and I here that Ed is doing a good job. With any luck the future is bright for them. Of course, as long as they keep serving up those pop-unders I won't be going back.

And Congrats to Wes, we all know that it was your hard work that took daBuzz to number 2.

T3 Magazine (http://www.t3.co.uk/), a UK hybrid between Maxim and Maximum PC

8O (trying to wrap my head around this concept)

Now I know boot, er.. Max PC likes to showcase gadgets on babes on their covers, but did I miss something? Admittedly it's been awhile since I picked up an issue (Max PC, that is ;)). Oh, then again we are talking about the UK editions?

Ummm... no. Basically T3 is a straightforward techno-lust mag. One scantily clad lady on the cover usually (surrounded by gadget pics) - said lady usually makes three of four appearances in ONE feature article (usually some kind of like for like comparison).

The PDA sites chosen were more for their PDA/Gadget lust factor over the years. BrightHand isn't that kind of PDA site and never has been - Pocket PC Passion maybe... PDABuzz was like that...

Oh I see Jason was making an abstract comparison. But probably unnecessary to mention Maxim as your description of T3 already seems to match Maximum PC to a t :D

Actually maybe it was boot and not Max PC anymore?

We can only wait until cpu does the same hehe...
