http://www.pdamotion.com/eshop/store-detail.asp?categoryID=200209131102302&subcategoryID=1&subcategory=&txtPicName=product%2Dna%2Egif

Ok, quick, even if you love your iPAQ, what are the two things you wish it had? Take a big step forward if you said a cover and a CF card slot. Now get ready to click on that link, because if there's one thing I love, it's when vendors come to me with a special offer just for Thoughts readers. And this one is a dandy!

Let me present the new and improved Silver Slider 2 with a color cover:

(Blue is shown above, but they're also available in red, green, and silver)

Here's the short version: buy a Silver Slider 2 for $49.95 and get a free built-in colour cover...normal price for everyone else is $69.95, so you're saving $20 off the top, and for every product sold a few bucks come back to support this site. Everybody wins! This is a limited time offer, so order soon - it will likely only last ten days.

If you're not familiar with the Silver Slider, it's a design created by the famous "George M", a clever guy who thought the Compaq CF card sleeve was too bulky. He took his Dremel to the sleeve, and the rest is history - the result was a sexy Silver CF card sleeve that was thinner and lighter than the original. A company named PDA Motion came along and offered to mass-produce the Silver Slider and paid George a royalty (unlike the company in China who simply ripped-off his design).

Some of you may be asking "Is this the same PDA Motion that took forever to ship the last Silver Slider?". Yes, it is - but this time, things will be different. Unlike the problems from last year, they have the Silver Sliders in stock today, waiting for you to click that link. I'm also on an advisory board for PDA Motion (along with a few other Pocket PC industry-types), helping to guide them in product choices and market decisions.

And there you have it - I'll chime in later with more details and a review of the Silver Slider 2 w/Color Cover.

I am in the process of choosing my first PDA. I like a lot of things about the iPaq(Screen, Bluetooth accessories etc.) however I decided against buying one because it doesn't have a CF slot. Are there any negative points to using an iPaq with a silver slider? For example, will it still fit in the cradle?

Also, how tough is the cover? Is it hard enough to prevent damage to the screen while carrying the iPaq in a backpack?

Shame its not available outside the US. :(

There are some PocketPCThoughts fans outside the US you know.

 Yet another offer that is only available in the US.

I thought that PPC Thoughts was a global site but I'm beginning to realise that it is a US centric site.

Sad really..

Does it work with all IPAQ models? I still have a 3635.

The man doesn't control where his affiliates sell to. You don;t here me complaining about the singapore centric deals on ppcsg or the english on some of the other sites. Maybe if you're real nice, they ship you one. Other than laws and regulations, I can't imagine a company refusing to sell their product.

Heh, you know when Jason posts a deal after midnight US time, many of the first replies will be complaints from across our shores ;)

Seriously though, I STILL have my defective, unused original PDA Motion Silver Slider, for which they've never replied back to me with an RMA :x

After the first attempts to reach them had failed, I posted in one of the PDA Motion complaint threads somewhere and Kemas as I recall promised to try to look it up, but then he reached the end of his personal rope with company problems and left (for which I don't blame him).

The defect I'm referring to is not just that the CF slot on my SS was put on backwards, it's that one side of the CF section separated from the PDA sleeve section so there's a gap there, and the sleeve section is thus warped and you *can't* physically insert an iPAQ into it.

P.S. That said, I'm still tempted to order this, it's a nice accessory purchase and I'm currently in a gadget rut...

Everyone should cut Jason some slack. He is trying to pass on a deal to his readers. What his affiliate does as far as where they ship/sell to is something you should email the affiliate. It surely doesnt mean that PPCThoughs is not a global site. That doesnt make sense.

As far as past bad experiences with PDA Motion. When they first started making the Silver Slider Copy, I actually pre-ordered one. I paid via pay-pal and a few short weeks after, I recieved it in the mail. I was concerned and whenever I contacted them, they replied. They are aware of their mistakes and hopefully have corrected them. If anyone has started their own business, it isnt easy...especially one that runs on the internet. So cut them some slack too. Their product is awesome.

Just look at the credible people involved with PDAMotion now. Jason Dunn and George. You cant go wrong. So go ahead and order a silver slider for 50 bucks and support this site

P.S. I am not affiliated with anyone mentioned above. Just enjoy the site and recognize quality merchandise.

I can tell you that as long as George is involved there should not be any problems. George will not stand for it. If there is one thing we have learned about George M in the last 2 1/2 years it is that he cares very deeply how his customers are treated. He is unparalleled in this area. If there are any problems he will demand they be fixed or he will disassociated himself.

Oh, so George the SS inventor is officially affiliated now? If I recall correctly, back in the original days, George had licensed to PDA Motion and supported them, but was quite frank that his involvement was otherwise limited (plus he was still selling his own creations). (BTW, I still remember when George first made an SS and it was all so exciting to follow up on Brighthand threads...)

Anyways, FWIW, I've never badmouthed PDA Motion, in fact, my post in this thread I think is the most negative I've written. I was in a kinda happy-go-lucky mood back then... between my initial pre-order and the long time to shipment, I never emailed them or posted online of a complaint once. After receiving it and failing to get email reply from customer service, I did post briefly on that thread where Kemas was soliciting postings of problems so he could try to fix them, but I was laid back and forgiving (I told him no big deal, they can get to me whenever they want and I'm cool). And afterwards, I didn't make a persistent, continued effort to keep emailing them until they replied back, so I guess besides happy-go-lucky you can also call me lazy :) (I tend to be soo lazy and disinterested in following up returns, mail-in rebates, that sort of thing...)

Of course, it's never too late to do the right thing by your customer (hint hint hint ;) :D )

I have an original 3645, the stylus no longer stays in, its dusty etc. But I use it every day. I can't decide whether to stick with my old iPAQ and its lovely Vaja case and clunky full sized CF sleeve, or get rid of the Vaja and go for this SS2....OR...sell the iPAQ and go for something newer. Am I reaching the end of the old iPAQ's battery life?

Thanks :)

If you are using a 3600 Ipaq there is a very good chance you are near the end of it's battery life. Battery life is quite variable, so it's hards to say for sure. Keep in mind that you can get a DIY battery for a rather reasonable price. If you are looking for rationalization for buying a new one.....Well you are lucky that your battery has not exploded, spewing battery acid all over you hands, getting into your blood stream causing a long horrilbe, and painful death. Ask yourself is your life worth loosing because you were too cheap to go out and buy a new PPC. I think not! Imagine your wife, and kids being left alone because of your stupidity. You should be ashamed. Get out there and buy a new one today, before it's too late. :D

Jason, could you please post a picture of the back of this. Does the cover go all of the way around or just attach at the top?? Is there a belt clip??

For example, will it still fit in the cradle?

I imagine since the SS2 normally fits in the cradle, as long as you had the cover flipped back (which you would need to work on your PDA anyways), it should work fine.

I'll post some further information and try to do a mini-review of sorts tomorrow. Book chapter due today, so that's my focus. :? But you'll still have time to order.

In addition to the back view and does it have a belt clip, I'd like to know if it fits the T-Mobile. From the photo, it looks like it might cover the SD slot. I'd like that because for some reason my SD card keeps popping out and I tap something and it doesn't recognize files on the Storage Card.

The price is a lot different from what I was going to order for $108 from vagacases.

IIRC, the Silver Slider's are exclusively made to fit the HPQ iPaq's and nothing else.

Almost there. This looks like a truly gorgeous sleeve and I love the flip up cover, but until they have one with a Battery as well, I'll just have to stick to my big, bulky, and generally ugly Compaq sleeve. I need the extra juice

I've read all of the threads, and remember all the history with pdamotion and the SS2 sleeves. But, still this is a great deal if you don't have a CF pack already (which is a must with any Ipaq 3xxx) you should consider it as an option. We have to give them a chance to redeem themselves. Lets see what happens and if they dont provide what they promise we'll be the first to let everyone else know.

P.S. if you're like me (on a budget) and have an old compaq CF sleeve you should check out this link.

Can you sync with the SS2c on the 3970?

What shade of green is it? Is the case plastic? Is the front cover leather? If it is leather, is it a soft leather? Does the case cover the stylus slot? (Mine pops out and it would be nice if it were covered.)

Do you install drivers for the CF slot from a CD or are they built in and work automatically?

I have a Seidio leather case that I really like. Will the SS2 fit in it if I remove the cover? The CF slot would be nice, but I didn't buy a CF case. If I remove the cover, does it go back on easily, if at all?

I don't know about your other questions, but your do not need drivers to run the CF slot. The CF slot is the same part used in regular Compaq sleeves, and thus the "drivers" should be built into your device.

However, still waiting for a little mini-review from Jason. Are you still working on this, or would it be better to ask specific questions? I'm also looking for pictures from various angles.

Thanks!

Yup, just ordered mine... my PC Card expansion sleeve was just getting too bulky for day-to-day use... and I was on the verge of paying $50 for the regular SS2 when I vaguely remembered Jason posting something about a special deal with PDAmotion... glad I checked back and clicked the link!!

Great deal! I can't wait to see it!

I really like mine a lot! I don't know why it took so long for me to realize how great a CF slot would be (except that I didn't want an ugly one). I have the leather SS2 from PDAMotion. I wish it was a colored leather, like blue or green, but I don't want to give up the feel of leather. The case is really nice.

PDAMotion had great customer service. I ordered it priority shipping and somehow it missed getting out when it was supposed to. PDAMotion sent it at their expense for Saturday delivery.

I have had it since it was first released and I haven't had any problems with it.

Same problem here: workswith memory cards, but not with CF wireless LAN and CF GPS (which work perfectly well in the original compaq sleeves). I had the same problem with a silver painted (at the bottom) Krusell Whitney sleeve, which was replaced promptly with a perfeclty working black one. It seems that a faulty batch of silver CF packs is around? :?

Did PDA Motion rectify this for you, or are you stuck with a SS that can only be used for memory cards. I plan to use a Symbol 802.11 card and if its not going to work I will not waste my money.
