Isn't that bizarre? Despite the 'Dull' brand so often associated with it, recent years have seen the Texas firm redefine the TFT market with some great monitors at insane prices. The 24" monitor that was released last year went after the Apple Cinema Display market, but was two thirds the price. It has proved such a hit with high-end users, that we've even incorporated its 1920x1200 resolution into our game testing. Likewise, the 1680x1050 20" panel has also been popular, available for around £300, making it a cheap buy. Dell recently pushed out the boat with a 30" display running 2560x1600, perfect for coupling with an equally ludicrously expensive dual or quad graphics setup. To match the styling of this new monitor, Dell has revamped its entire display range, adding new features and respinning the looks. Today, we're looking at the new 24", the 2407WFP."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/bit-tech-dell-2407WFP.jpg" /><br /><br />This looks like one smokin' monitor - I've had my eye on it for a while now. I currently have two Dell 20" square-screen monitors side by side, but switching to two 24" widescreens sure would make my day. :D It's a bit disappointing to read about the minor problems with high-resolution photo display and banding, but I have to admit that I tend not to peep at the pixels that closely so I don't think I'd notice it. Any 2407WFP owners out there - what do you think of this monitor?

To top it off, Costco.ca currently has this monitor on their website for $850 Cdn. (1000 less 150 instant rebate).
I've been debating over this one myself... it'd be a nice addition to my desktop.

Dell has it on their site for the same price, so not much of a special deal, but that's still a good price. Heck, I remember paying $900 at Costco for each of my 17" Samsung LCDs...my first dual-LCD set up. :-)

8O Really? I'd thought it was bargain basement. I guess I'm not enough in the know. What's the lowest you've seen?

I don't recall the lowest price I've seen - but I'm going to wait for the next 10 Days of Deals before buying ANYTHING Dell. ;-) They haven't had one in a while, I'd expect to see one in July sometime.

Having owned this monitor for a few hours (before packaging it up and reselling it), I can say that the banding is quite bad, and wouldn't be a monitor that I would recommend to anyone until Dell fixes the issue.

Oh man, seriously? :( Well, gee, there goes my excitement.

Oops - spoke just a moment too soon. The unit I had was the 2007FPW, but the banding issue seems to be the same on all the new widescreen Dell units. Apparently it is somewhat fixed in the newer revs of the unit (A01+), but last I heard, Dell was just disabling one of the modes that showed the banding at its worst....

Several things. Right out of the box it is way too blue-ish. I had to wait until it had burned in for about 8 hours before a calibration would take. I discovered this when I noticed the banding. My heart sunk - I thought I was gonna have to deal with Dell returns...
I do a lot of Photoshop as a photographer and was pleased that after the second calibration/burnin the monitor is gorgeous. My only isse is a color shift when viewing off angle. Big as this thing is that is easier than you would think. Overall I am pretty pleased.
Calibration was with GretagMacbeth Eye 1 Display II. The biggest problem was an excessive amount of blue. This thing is called UltraBright and they mean it! I had to take the brightness down to about 40 and the contrast to 50 to attain the calibrated brightness level of 160 mcd. That speaks well for longevity of the backlight as I'll be able to raise it as needed over time to maintain that level. I have never had a monitor that I had to turn down that low - most are within 10 of their max settings to attain calibrated levels. The contrast is rated at 1000:1 but it measures out as 680:1. This is actually pretty good as most monitors come in less than half of their "rated" specs. Still below what a CRT can offer but an improvement nevertheless.
My two centavos - worth as usual much less than 2 cents...

I own the 2405FPW and previously owned the 2005FPW. While it's an earlier model than the one being discussed, it also had issues with banding, leaking backlight etc. Dell seems to do that a lot with the first revision of any new monitor. Maybe it's just the large ws ones. In any case, as with the 2005FPW and the 2405FPW, I would make sure to get the rev. A01+ model 2407WFP.
Why'd they change the order of the letters around :?:
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that it's a freaking fantastic monitor. I'd cry if I had to go back to a regular monitor.
