<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3358' target='_blank'>http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3358</a><br /><br /></div><i>"It's neither final nor fully tested yet but Microsoft recently released another ActiveSync Beta - this time for ActiveSync 4.5. With the introduction of Windows Mobile 5.0, ActiveSync 4 is the only way to get the latest Windows Mobile devices synced with Windows-powered PCs and Microsoft Outlook - right out of the box. ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Windows-powered PC and Windows Mobile-powered device, enabling the transfer of Outlook information, Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications to and from your device. In addition to synchronizing with a desktop PC, ActiveSync can synchronize directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 so that you can keep your E-Mail, calendar data, tasks and contact information updated wirelessly when you're away from your PC."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Jerry-teaser_ms_activesync.gif" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />I've just installed this new version and it seems to be working fine. It is supposed to have a new troubleshooter but I have not had any problems or seen any benefit yet. I have synced my Q, 2125 and 3125. The only caveat is you almost have to set up the partnerships from scratch. I say almost because it retained my Exchange Server settings but I had to re-set up my PC sync settings. If you want to give it a try you can get it <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0e19bd46-f101-4852-96aa-398cb3b54681&DisplayLang=en">here from MS.</a>

Just installed the update and had no problems syncing my SDA. I was just curious though why it asked me for a new computer name.

IIRC, exchange server settings are always separate from patenership. I can delete all my patenerships and keep the push/exchange server settings intact.

Correct, this time however it acted a bit differently than other AS updates I have done.

I think AS will always be an Achilles heel for MS. They never seem to want to make it right. Always just an afterthought. :(

I've been lurking for ages now. This list helped me choose my SMT 5600, which I remain extremely happy with. I recently tried the Q, curious about the device and to test Verizon service in my area. With all the hype, I wanted to like the Q, but returned it in favor of my trusty 5600 (on Cingular) and its comfortable form factor. Now the Active Sync question: I have AS set for manual sync only. With the Q, there was no such setting and AS updated automatically on connection. The AS versions are identical. Is the manual vs. auto a difference between WM2003 and WM5 or is it phone specific? The reason I ask, is I am considering the HTC 3125 and would be just as annoyed if I was forced to auto sync just because I updgraded to WM5. Thanks!

No. You need the Windows Mobile Device Center which will be available from Windows Update once it's ready.

Bluetooth is the only way now to connect to the PC. WiFi was disabled in the newer version of Active Sync.

The new ActiveSync 4.5 Beta will NOT sync your notes from your calendar appointments.
I keep appointments for conference calls with the call in codes in my notes.
The notes are still in my Outlook, but they have disappeared from my Cingular 3125 phone.

I am switching back to AS 4.2 for now.

Where do I go to report this bug ?????
