As I'm sure most of you know, the second beta of Windows Vista went public on Wednesday (I think.)
I was really excited to get it set up and find everything to be working properly (still have to test some games) but the one problem I am having is that I can't get my Smartphone (an Audiovox SMT5600) to sync with anything other than Windows Media Player.
It detects the phone, installs the drivers, opens the "Mobile" center, and even lets me set up music synching an explore the device. But no where is there an option to sync the device with Outlook, or Outlook Express, or Windows Mail, or Windows Calendar. Which is really annoying.
I haven't tried to install Active Sync but I read in many places it won't work. I'm under the impression that support for synching of this nature is built into Vista, but not working or enabled yet.
That said, has anyone had any luck in synching their smartphone (contacts, calendar, e-mail etc.) with Vista Beta 2?
If so, how?
If it's just an unfinished feature, is there a band-aid solution in the mean time?

Welcome to Smartphone Thoughts. :)

Unfortunately, PIM data sync has been excluded from Beta 2.

Correct. Can't be done.
I'm under the impression that support for synching of this nature is built into Vista, but not working or enabled yet.
That's right. By the time Vista is officially completed, it will support full synchronisation with Windows Mobile devices (including PIM data, media, and file management), but as you've noticed, not all has been implemented yet, unfortunately. :(
If it's just an unfinished feature, is there a band-aid solution in the mean time?
Not really - unless you want to start messing around with say, Thunderbird PIM data and a compatible third-party sync tool, which mind you, might not work with Vista. Messy stuff, really. ;)

So one of the recent Windows Updates changed Mobile Device Center pretty signifigantly, and it now shows the option to sync the data.
Except it says "Outlook has not been configured."
Any one not get that message?
I don't really want to reinstall Office but maybe that will do the trick.

Worked for me. Connected my PPC and it announced that there was a Mobile Device Center update. I let it install, and it connected and sync'd. It gives me some annoying traits like AS4 did to me. It won't let me sync some PIM stuff with more than one PC. Says for instance, Contacts is already sync'ed with Windows PC and has the option grayed out. It also still can't figure out the names of my PCs and PPCs. It named the PCs Windows PC and Windows PC2, and calls my K-Jam Sven's Mobile Device. Guess I'm only allowed one. Maybe the next one becomes Sven's other mobile device, and then Yet another Mobile Device. I would think it would be better just to get the names.
I do incidentally have Vista in a network and Outlook 2007 connected to an Exchange Server. So Outlook is most definately configured here. Have you got it set up with folders contacts calendar etc?

I think it's set up...
I have an Audiovox SMT5600, and I previously sync'd my contacts, calendar, and sometimes e-mail with Outlook 2003.
I upgraded to Vista (I'm running dual boot, so it's not the end of the world, but I'd like to sync my phone with Vista since that's the only thing holding me back from using it as my primary OS) and the Office 2007 beta.
Now, post-Mobile Center update, I plug my phone in, set up a partnership, and then when it gets to the screen where you have the option to check the boxes next to Contacts, Calendar and E-mail, they are greyed out and it says "Outlook has not been configured."
I don't know what else to configure in Outlook... I've been using e-mail, contacts and calendar in it exactly as I had before.
Any thoughts?

In outlook (beta 2007) go to Tools>Options>Preferences, at the bottom of that tab are some mobile options. I don't know if they will do anything but they are new to outlook. Maybe it has something to do with what you are having trouble with.

Nope : (
Those options look to be some sort of method of getting text/MMS maybe even voicemail from your provider to show up in your Outlook inbox.
I have looked everywhere, and still found nothing.

Someone replied to a similar thread I posted on the Microsoft Vista Discussion groups and said that they think maybe it only works with Windows Mobile 5 for now. Is it working for those of you with WM5? Is there anyone who has it working with WM2003?

I am also running VISTA Beta 2 with all of the latests fixesa nd additions via the new windows update applet and I cannot sync my SMT5600 SmartPhone to my Outlook on my PC , only to and Exchange Server. The PC section is dithered and will not me select this option. I have wiped my phones memory and started from scratch with each release of the Mobile Connection Center updates hoping that they woudl enable syncing to a PC once again. Any help is greatly appreciated. By the way, does anyone know if Vista Beta 2 supports LEP auth from Cisco, or I guess my questions is doe anyone know if there is a version of the Cisco ACU that works with VISTA that allows LEAP?
TY in adavce!!!!!!
