Unlimited medianet 19.99 plan---instant messaging?

I have the unlimited medianet plan and i was wondering if I get charged for instant messaging, as I would for text messaging? Does anyone know of an instant messaging software that will pop up or something instantly like on my PC? I have tried yahoo but I have to check it like its email so I don't understand the benefit. Can anybody help? I would like to use AIM instantly. Any suggestions?

There's Agile Messenger - It's pretty popular, but I haven't used it in a while. IM is considered data and not SMS, so there shouldn't be an extra charge. But, I'm not MediaNET expert. ;)
