I just bought a mpx220, and love it. The rom update is great. However is there a way to get the cingular screen not to come up on start up and shutdown. I tried going into the windows folder and deleting the image but is just gave me a error "unable to delete" message

It's a bit more complicated than that, but one of the best guides I've come across is at the link below. The site is geared towards flashing the ROM of your device with assorted alternatives, which I would not generally recommend on a phone that is subsidized and locked, or one you cannot afford to brick. One such ROM is Korean and there are a significant number of things that need to be tweaked, to make it usable if you don't speak Korean. The outline does also cover things like changing or disabling the startup and shutdown pictures and sounds. For that it is a useful reference document.

P.S. if the link doesn't get you right there, go to the site and you are looking for the MPX220 forums, MPX220 how to guides, Definitive Asian 3.45/3.46 guide. I don't recall if I had to register to get to the forums.

Here is where I changed it on my smt5600:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Splash Screen
Must be .gif and sized ex: 176x220

You of course need a registry editor to do this. I use Resco but there are others. Don't try this unless you feel comfortable messing with the registry.

The phone is actually unlocked, which is why I wanna ditch that screen. Thanks a bunch for the info!

I was able to remove the startup and shutdown screen. Now if i wanted to add my own, how exactly would I do that? I know I need a .gif picture, but where do I save the picture at?

See my post above. You can put it anywhere. Just point that registry entry to the new image location. That post gives you size and type of file as well.

Thanks! Is there any way to speed up the boot sequence through the registry? It seems like it takes the phone forever to boot up.

There are some delays you can change for the image display time during boot up but I doubt you can speed up the actual process.
