I played with the demo version of this software and was impressed. You can download topographic maps and NOAA charts.
I paid the $19.95 for it and have been very happy. I am running it on my SMT5600. As far as the maps and charts go, you are only limited by the size of storage card you have. They have versions for smartphones and handhelds alike. Note, if you download and register the smartphone version, you will not be able to use the same registration code for your pocket pc or other device, one code, one device. The $19.95 fee is good for the life of the registered device, in other words you can download all the maps/charts you want for as long as you have your device, there is no time limit or renewal fee. You download the maps/charts to your harddrive and then you pick which ones you want to install on the device.
To get the maximum use out of the software, I use a SysOn Bluetooth GPS with it. Your position in real time is displayed on either the topo maps or NOAA charts. You can save waypoints and route to points (when using GPS). The routing is basic, you are given a range and bearing, it is not like turn by turn routing available from software like Mapopolis.
All in all, I am very happy with the software for the following reasons:
very reasonable price for the functionality
ease of use
selection of maps/charts available
GPS support
no renewal fee
online forum for support (lots of answers are directly from the developers)

(I am not affiliated with them in anyway, just a happy customer)
