Does any one know if U use a pocket pc and dial up with a phone, would unlimited media net from cingular cover the unlimited usage or would it be as data and charge u by kb/mb!!! If so, is there a way around it by changing the settings so cingular wont know im using a pda ?Or would i have to pay for the unlimited pda connect?
Thanks

I used the unlimited media net package for about six months on my web-enabled phone (Moto V600, not a smartphone) and with a bluetooth connection to both a pda and a laptop (not at the same time). I was very happy with it and only dropped it because I was cutting back on my total monthly expenses. At that time, it was $20/month; now I believe the unlimited is $24/month. I've never heard of unlimited pda connect; don't know if that's something special. Unlimited media net package uses GPRS so is on the same order bandwidth as 56k modem.

Well i hope so! its like your sayin, im gona give it a shot. I just had cingular since the first of this month and just had the regular minute plan with no extra features, and i raked up 311 dollars in 15 days connecting my pda to it!!!.....Luckily i caught in time otherwise it would of been 600 in a month  I spoke to a cingular operator and she told me to get the unlimited 24.99 plan. She said that would be great for the pda.
One thing i was wondering when i use the internet on the phone i just see the g sighn in use when i connect my pda it has those little arrows in use by the book it means im usung data connect ! I wonder if the 24.99 media net covers that ,and the operator was wrong about it covering that ,cause there not always right ya know!Well one way to find out im gona try it!
ill post what happens later!

From what I understand, there are two plans that you can use:

- one where you use the phone to access the internet
- one where you use the phone AS A MODEM to access the internet

I have the one where I can use the phone to access the internet, downloading, browsing, sending/receiving emails, but I don't use it as a modem because I'll be charged an arm and a leg.

nope, the mpx220 counts asa pda device. when using the device as a modem the data transfer will show up as 'premium data' and if youre not on the pda data plans can get pretty expensive.

unlimited premium data for a pda device is $49.99 a month through cingular. coming june 1st media features are gonna change around a bit (media net unl -$19.99 a month instead of $24.99) so keep an eye out for that.

Hello,

I am very confused by the various data plans Cingular has. I have a corporate account so I don't see the bills but I do want to be careful so I don't end up getting a huge bill.

What confuses me is that:

http://www.cingular.com/midtolarge/data_connect

lists a bunch of data plans and the unlimited ones are $79.99 or $44.99.

Yet, there are the MEdia Net plans:

https://www.cingular.com/media/media_net_purchase

the unlimited plan there is $19.99

Then there is the mMode plan:

https://www.cingular.com/mmode/mmode_plans

the unlimited plan there is $24.99

Then I am supposed to have the "Unlimited Data Connect" which is supposedly $24.99 per month. (I started with them on the AT&T side just shortly after the merger.)

Can someone explain all these plans? What are the differences between mMode, "MEdia Net" and "Data Connect"? Why can't I find the $24.99 Data Connect plan listed anywhere?

Thanks.

Can't say with quaranteed authority, but I have been using my SMT5600 to browse the net directly, access e-mail, IM, etc. I have on occasion connected my X50v through the SMT5600 for similar purposes. I racked up 11,228 KB. All of it covered in my $20 unlimited MediaNet charge.

The SMT5600 is not EDGE capable, nor is the MPX220, but I know that some of the PDAs and the PC card that Cingular sells are. Possibly that is where the higher rate data plans come in.

Note that MediaNet is basically GPRS internet access. It doesn't cover SMS, MMS, etc. Those are extra, and automatically available on a per/message basis.
