That's the first time I've heard of it. If it's true, and I don't see why not, then I wouldn't expect it to last very long. They should have more stock shortly. Just a guess.

I just called around to at least 20 Cingular stores & resellers looking for a demo unit to play with. No one had any instock. The local Cingular store said they have a shipment coming in next week. I ended up getting it off Amazon.com last night. Got a confirmation today already that it will be shipping out tomorrow overnight for delivery on Tues. The stores around here are not reporting backorders or shortages, they just say they arent stocking many of them because they arent selling fast.

:?:
I was just checking the Cingular site and the MPX-220 is gone from the page that lists the phones and PDAs for sale. Maybe they took it off until they get more in?

I've seen them take it off and then put it back at least once already.
I've just spoken to Cingular. Cingular told me the MPX220 is being recalled and Motorola has directed them to at least temporarily stop selling the phone. Cingular could not tell me why the phone has been recalled, or for how long they won't be offering the phone, or if they will be selling the phone again.
I will be contacting Motorola this afternoon if possible to get more information.

I've just spoken to Cingular....
Oh no... Here we go again. :?
Hi All,
As you can read above, I spoke to Cingular earlier today and was told that Motorola has recalled the MPX220 and told Cingular to not sell it until things get straightened out. That’s why the phone was delisted from the web site and why they weren’t selling the phone from the sales center or in the stores.
It gets bizarre from here.
I spoke to Motorola and at first got a low level person who told me she hasn’t been informed of any recall on that particular phone. Not satisfied, I moved up the food chain several levels to someone who said she was the shift supervisor in the support center. She said there was no recall of the MPX220 that she knew of and that she had no knowledge of any stoppage of sales of the MPX220 to Cingular either.
I then called the sales center for Cingular and asked if I could still purchase an MPX220 from them and the sales person said, “Of course, and we presently have a mail in rebate offer on the phone. It’s priced at $299 and you’ll get a $50 mail-in rebate certificate with the phone. You have to have a two year contract to take advantage of the offer.” I asked him why the phone was not listed on the Internet and he said, “I didn’t know, but that’s a separate division of Cingular from the sales center.” I asked about the recall of the phone and he said there wasn't any that he's heard about for this phone, at least not since the phone was first introduced last year.
Next I’m going to try to get someone in charge of the web site to see what they say about this saga.
Stay tuned...

Maybe just a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Cingular did a stand up job at the beginning of this mess as far as swapping phones for people, twice for me. If you really want bizarre call Moto!

I went to a mall kiosk the other day to inquire about switching plans to Cingular.... HAHAH... they told me I had some HUGE balance on my account so I called Cingular.
She told me to forget what the kiosk AND the store people told me, and just to stick with on-line and the call center.
It's best to stick with whatever avenue you originally went with when dealing with customer svc. If you bought your first phone on-line, stay on-line, if you went to a store, go back to a store.

this happens because the system that is used at stores and kiosk (POSII) for activating phones and doing customer service work (imei swap, adding/deleting features, etc) doesn't get the updated information from cingulars main database correctly as far as your monthly balance is concerend. if i pull myself up right now it says i owe about $60.00 but really i dont owe anything.
if you want your balance just press *BAL# on your phone and it will send you back the information via sms.
