What is the connection speed of Cingulars unlimited data plan? Is it any good for speed if I want to use it while on the road instead of buying internet access in the hotel rooms?

Please advise,
john

Cingular's data plan is based on GPRS which should provide an average speed of 25Kbps and may go as high as 50-60Kbps depending on the load/city. [Disclaimer: I am not a Cingular customer, I am on T-Mobile with similar network. So the speeds are based on my network, which should apply to Cingular also.]

So if the hotel has high speed internet, then the GPRS is no competition. Also it depends on what you want to do. If it is just to download "some" mail then it will work. But for heavy surfing, you need better connection.

Hopefully we will soon have EDGE networks and EDGE enabled Smartphones. ;-)
