I'm a bit of a skeptic, and to be honest I really do not like the idea of using a mobile phone in-car for navigation. Mobile Phone packages will be of more use for if you have just completed a pub crawl and are walking around town trying to find your way to your hotel, and this is where I see the market really taking off. However, after using CoPilot Live - Windows SmartPhone, I am truly impressed. You'll find out why if you read on!"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20040923-CoPilotLiveReview.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />Dave Burrows has posted a really in-depth review of CoPilot. It's loaded with information and pictures! I'm not sure why there is a sudden explosion of GPS based software for the Smartphone, but I'm not going to complain. The more, the merrier. :D

I'm all in favor of carrying one device but http://gpsinformation.us/vistacolor/etrexvistacolor.html
at around $300 does a better job and I can see it in the bright NM sun while on my horse... :D

That's a good point. A lot of these phone/PDA navigation systems are meant for roads. I wonder how well they would fair in a place where there are no roads.

The Garmin Vista Colour, Legend Colour, GPSMap 60C/CS, and GPSMap 76C/CS are good little colour handheld GPS Receivers, but they don't have mobile phone technology built into them, so if you want cellular use, then you still need to carry a mobile around with you.

Seeing that we have Street Navigation programs already on the Symbian and Windows based SmartPhone's it shouldn't be long before we get the likes of Memory-Map, MapTech and Fugawi on the SmartPhone's. There's no technological issue for the Windows SmartPhone, as they're already written for Windows Mobile 2003, it's just porting the apps across. Symbian may be more of a hurdle to overcome.

I hope we do get those apps for the smartphone but I'll have to wait until the next generation of phones to get one that is readable outdoors. I guess that will come too. I use Mapoplois on my i600 quite a lot for reference when in a town I'm not familar with but I have to be indoors to see it.
