My home screen is saying I have (1) SMS message, when I go to the inbox there is none. This happened as a result (I think) as a freeze-up during a reception of an SMS message.

Besides a hard reset, is there any way to fix this?

Delete the cemail.vol file under the IPSM folder on your phone.
All other mails will be deleted as well but this will clear out the "Phantom SMS", which is a common problem at times.

You have to restart your phone when you are done deleting so it can create the cemail.vol file again.

Thanks, that worked great. Although the phone wouldn't allow me to just delete the file, I was able to rename it. Once it was renamed I rebooted and the phone created another cemail.vol. Now that the phone was using the new cemail.vol I was able to delete the old one.

This also solved another problem of mine. It got rid of all the extra mailboxes that were in my inbox. This one little fix made my phone twice as nice.
