MiTAC has already launched one Smartphone (the Mio 8380) and now they have plans for two more:

"The company plans to launch two more smartphone devices before the end of the year and expects monthly shipments to reach 50,000 units, contributing NT$1 billion (about US$29 million) in sales, according to Tsai. Both models will be powered by Microsoft’s Windows Powered Smartphone 2003 operating system, Tsai said."

So that's one more place saying Smartphone 2003 devices will be available by the end of the year. This is great news, but what get's me even more excited is how much they are planning to do to get consumers interested in the platform:

"According to Tsai, the company will launch a branding campaign costing about 60 million to 70 million yuan and establish up to 20,000 retail channels throughout China to promote its smartphones."

The Mitac Smartphone is beautiful. I would love to see them come West. Further it would be truly extraordinary it they decided to manufacture CDMA handsets for America.

<pre warning--- my main gripe is how much CDMA handsets are lagging behind GSM even though CDMA is a better more robust frequency>

I suppose (and I hope) the new Mitac smartphones will be unveiled at Computex 2003 on September 22th.

No doubt, they will be powered by Xscale processor! :P

Someone knows if Mitac bought the Intel Electra Reference Design?
