I concur on the matte screen issue - glossy screens should go into a cave and die somewhere. I really dislike them, but they seem to be everywhere...

I love the pointing device on Thinkpads and wish other laptops had them. They be especially useful on netbooks, but unfortunately Lenovo doesn't include it with Ideapads (at least not the one I owned). And I agree about glossy screens - let them die, die, die! Amazingly, my netbook has a matte screen, which I'm totally grateful for.

That's the reason to only buy Thinkpads with a 7 row keyboard. :P

What was the reason to introduce glossy screens? I do not like them as well and all the people I asked about dislike the concept too.......
Maybe some divine inspired focus group stated that they were better?

I think it's mostly to do with how nice glossy screens look in the store - they make images "pop" via high contrast. People see them and think "Wow, that looks nice and shiny!".
