Default LG Electronics To Focus On Multiple Smartphone Platforms

http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/new.../129_71185.html

"LG plans to release 20 sets of smartphones this year with 15 models being Android phones. He said that 4.2 million phones will be Android-based, while 1.8 million will use Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, the executive said. 'We can't exactly predict the market. But one thing clear is LG is heavily betting on Google's Android operating system. The number of Android phones will be more than earlier expected,' an LG spokesman said."

The Korea Times is reporting that a senior executive with LG Electronics has indicated that it intends to sell upward of 6 million smartphones this year. Of the 6 million phones, 1.8 million are intended to be based on the Windows Mobile platform (It's not obvious from the context if they are actually referring to Windows Phone 7, 6.5.x phones or some combination.). Clearly, it is intending a major push in the Android market and, based on the development of that platform in the last year, that's not too surprising. It will be fun to watch the next 6-8 weeks to see if LG is the first out the door with a commercial Windows Phone 7 device.

20 sets of smartphones? And we only have five months to the end of the year?

It sounds to me like another empty promise - seem this before. Or four models with four variations each - US, European, Asia-Pacific, Martian...

I dont really care for WP7. If MS can forgive WM 6.5 users while is still current, well, when WP8 arrives all WP7 users will be left behind, again. No thanks. Ill go for an android. :P
