HTC Russia Says "Nyet" on Windows Mobile 7 for Touch Pro2 and Diamond2 Devices
"For Diamond 2 firmware is not planned. Of the existing communicators on the market, only the HD2 firmware to get WM7." That's a translated quote from HTC Russia's Twitter account, though as of right now the tweet has been deleted and the page Engadget linked to is now gone. Oh HTC, you should know better - you can't publish something, then try to un-do it after it's gotten out there. At any rate, I'm not sure which surprises me more: that the HD2 will be getting a Windows Mobile 7 upgrade, or that the almost-as-expensive Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2 won't. I'm not so sure I believe that the HD2 will get an upgrade to 7...it lacks some of the things that are part of the Chassis 1 spec we read about earlier this year. We can all hope though, right?

Well the 1GB memory could be an issue but...
other than that the HD2 meet the specs.
Also considering that HTC the HD2 as the flagsip phone, at least for the time being, it makes sense allow an update to WM 7: in this way people will not hold and waiting to buy a new device in the, hopefully, next few months.
Could it be that the Touch Pro II will not be updated because of the processor? I had one and it came with the same processor of the Touch Pro.

Quite frankly, I'll be very surprised if any current phones are able to be upgraded to WM7.

No surprises there... It will be very disappointing if it happens (again) that no current devices are upgradeable...

Not to get too far off topic, but is there going to be a North American HD2?

I have heard rumors that the HD2 is coming to T-Mobile in January.

It doesn't matter much, considering the hacker community will likely have a WM7 ROM for the Touch Pro 2 long before anyone officially releases it.
And Android on the TP2.

you assume that WM7 doesn't need special features on the screen drivers to make this possible

Well The HD2 ha a capacitive, touch screen so as far as hardware it should be all right; as for the drivers I am sure that between MS and HTC they will be able to assemble some decent drivers.
