HTC Qilin Running TI OMAP3
"We've been able to confirm a wmpoweruser.com report that HTC's upcoming Qilin for China Mobile will be underpinned by an honest-to-goodness OMAP3, which you'd think might rock the Qualcomm boat but HTC's decision was actually very easy: the fully-integrated MSM7200 isn't available in a TD-SCDMA configuration. That's good for Qilin, good for China Mobile, bad for customers of every other Whitestone variant in the world." What's the big deal? Well, the TI OMAP3440 is the same processor backing the Palm Pre and the iPhone 3GS and is a relative rarity for HTC and Windows Mobile devices generally - which is a shame because it's both pretty powerful and highly media-centric. Unfortunately, given the less than stellar performance of Snapdragon mobile units todate (which to be fair may be due to driver optimisation or other ROM issues), it appears that this may be a one-off for HTC as the Qualcomm partnership means that the Snapdragon will be HTC's future default high-end processor.
