Default Microsoft Tag For 2D Images

http://www.microsoft.com/tag/

"Microsoft Tag creates unlimited possibilities for making interactive communications an instant, entertaining part of life. They transform physical media (print advertising, billboards, product packages, information signs, in-store merchandising, or even video images) - into live links for accessing information and entertainment online. "

Use Microsoft Tag to see where this link goes!

Well, I have no clue how viable this technology will be - it depends on the adoption rate. I am impressed though with the application. It is small and lightning fast even on an older HTC Wizard. Download the app directly to your device at http://gettag.mobi on your device. It installs just fine to a storage card. Then see where the tag shown above takes you. Don't try to press the button on your camera. Tag will automagically process the tag once it is recognized in the view screen.

Default Interesting

Interesting. A Cue Cat for the camera phone generation.

The download didn't install, so I thought I had to start the camera myself. Installing manually got it working. It worked quickly and took me to some actress fan site. Oops, that's "Hansberry", not "Halle Berry". Oh well.

You're referring to QR codes, right? Microsoft's are certainly prettier.

Worked good on my Omnia except when I turned to landscape mode. Half of it was off the screen

I wonder how much data could be embed in one of the tags? You could fit the whole product information and links to a web site. This way if someone only has a camera or a PPC that doesn't have a wireless connection at that time, it could still be useful offline.

Or I guess you could pair this up with an offline database for roadmaps or if you have a connection it could take you to updated data on where you are.

If you are at a tourist site they could have them on the signs to give you more details about an item so you wouldnt have to type in the url.

I guess there are a few things to look at... What are your thoughts?

Ultimately I think this will likely die like the "Cat" did. I still have one in a box.
