Default Palm Launches App Store For Palm Devices

http://appstore.pocketgear.com/palm/

"The Software Store has gone mobile. Browse and download over 5,000 apps & games right from your Palm device. Plus, there are over 1,000 free apps to choose from. The mobile software store supports over 25 Palm devices1, from the Centro to the Treo Pro."

If you have a Palm device, be it PalmOS or Windows Mobile, Palm has created an application store you can browse, purchase and download directly from your device. There is a link for PalmOS and Windows Mobile devices to download the store application. I've not tried it to see if it verifies your Windows Mobile device is really from Palm.

Thanks. That is kind of silly. They are just denying themselves additional revenue. Never claimed Palm was a bastion of logic and rationale.

I suspect this is more about creating a Palm "experience" then a direct revenue channel.

Isnt this "app store" just a shortcut that opens PIE with links to Pocketgear?

Just a shortcut
I may have spoke too soon on it not working for my Touch Dual. I just discovered that the email link is to an EXE not a CAB file. {sign}

Of course the fact that its just a short cut is inexcusable. Why would a company think that in this day and age a poor (IMO) implementation like that would be acceptable?

On WM devices, yes. I don't know what you get on a Palm OS device, but I'm not holding my breath.

So, on WM at least, this is nothing more than the carrier-branded "Get Apps" shortcuts that launch a branded version of Handango. At least Handango's InHand is a real application.
