Default HTC's Dream in the Flesh (Well, Plastic)

http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/30/...ous-spy-photos/

"Sure, we've seen some blurry videos and managed a few stolen glimpses when Andy Rubin demonstrated this beast, but now we've gotten our hands on a slew of pictures showing off a very real T-Mobile-branded Dream in all its Android-running glory. Not only does this confirm the design spied in those FCC docs as well as show off that nearly-done version of Android, but it seems to confirm the fact that this will be headed to T-Mobile, and sooner rather than later judging from the looks of the above device."

Will Android be a real compeditor to Windows Mobile? A lot of people are hoping so, but I'm reserving judgment until I see it in action myself. It looks like there's a lot to like, but building a mobile operating system isn't a a cakewalk and until seeing Google's new Chrome browser, I had very little faith in Google's ability to develop desktop software. I do like the look of the user interface above - looks quite Mac-like, and that's not a bad thing on a mobile device.

Default ugly design??

Speaking purely on the hardware itself, I'm kinda disappointed. HTC has made a lot of slick and sexy looking devices recently, but this is neither. Does anyone else agree?? I was really stoked to get my hands on this thing, but after seeing the pictures I think I'll stay on the sidelines.

It is ugly, no doubt about it. As far as be real competition to WM? give it couple years, let it mature. That means to have a lot of good and useful functions and applications that we have with WM right now.

I want to be mad at HTC for releasing such an ugly handset but at the same time I secretly think someone over at HTC is sitting on a large pile of money mischievously rubbing their hands together because Microsoft paid them to sabotage the first Google Android handset with a case of the uglies. That is the only solution I can think of that would make sense for releasing something so broken looking.

Also, is it just me or does it look kind of like a giant domino piece?

I also can't understand that someone takes device shots, with a panther-carpet as background.

I agree that's no beauty contest winner. Also, I think the trend is moving away from slideouts. I was at the AT&T store last night looking for a new device for my wife. The only slideouts that I saw were the Tilt and the Pantech Duo but there are several front keyboard devices.
