Default Treo 800w Early Review Roundup

Along with that "other phone", Palm (relatively quietly) launched their 800w, and the early reviews have been pouring in.  For those of you considering the 800w, here's a collection of unboxings and reviews you may find helpful.

[ The Gadgeteer | Brighthand | CNET | Engadget Mobile | Mobility Site (photos, video) ]

In general, most reviewers seem to think it's a worthwhile improvement over the earlier Treos, with the biggest criticisms being the thickness, the battery life, and the connector switch to microUSB.  Have any of you picked up the 800w?  If so, contribute your thoughts in the thread.  We'll be sure to update you with more reviews as they come in.

Update 7/24 2:15pm: Changed Engadget Mobile's link to reflect their full review posted this afternoon.

I played with one at the store the other day. Works OK. I would say it is more responsive than my Mogul. Biggest disappointment was the LCD, which looked completely washed out even after I adjusted the brightness to the max. Overall, IMHO the device is completely unimpressive.

Hmm - that's too bad, usually Palm screens are decent.

Default will i ever find a WM Pro 6.1 device with a QWERTY keyboard?

in my quest for an exposed QWERTY keyboard WM Pro device, i purchased the 800w hoping it would fulfill my needs. after 2 days, i returned it because the call quality (in my opinion) was not as good as the Treo 750. all callers sounded muffled as if the 800w speaker was off center relative to the earpiece hole. the speaker on my HTC Touch is much louder and clearer compared to the 800w. battery life, as expected given the battery size/output, was not the best. battery life on my HTC Sprint Touch, which has the same mAh, is much better..... maybe i've gotten picky, but the 800w didn't work for me. my quest for a QWERTY WM Pro device continues.... up next (hopefully) is the Samsung i-788 and (although it doesn't have an exposed keyboard) the Touch Pro...

I upgraded form my 700WX (come on Palm-it took you two years to update a phone!). I really like it. It is much more responsive and the EVDO Rev A is much faster than the 700WX. I also haven't seen any slow ups needing a reboot after a number of hours. I've had a couple lock-ups mid-call but nothing too major. The battery life isn't great and I like the feel of the phone even though I would have liked it thinner. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I really like the keyboard on front mostly for one-handed use which to me is where the mogul falls short.

i agree that the phone is very responsive given the processor and the keyboard was perfect for my fat-fingers. what's your opinion on call quality? do callers sound muffled to you? thanks.

I think the call quality is better than my 700wx. I use a Parrot Bluetooth handsfree kit a lot and the bluetooth is much more responsive and reliable than the 700wx. I don't know how it compares to other phones since I've been using the 700wx for almost two years.
