Pocket Informant 8.1 Released
WebIS has relased Pocket Informant 8.1, an incremental upgrade to one of the most popular super-PIMs on the market for any device. New or improved features include: - 12 Key Search for Pocket PC - this is like T9 for search
- Contacts rewritten so that it now is very fast
- Improved Events view and Journal view with groupings and more options
- Improved Touch mode
- Major improvements to Smartphone all over the place, including linking support
It is a free upgrade for 8.0 users. Just launch the WebIS Update icon in your Programs menu to download and install. If you have an earlier version or a competitive product, see the website for upgrade eligibility and pricing.

Pocket Informant is one of the main applications used on my Axim - but thus far have not gone to PIv8, sticking instead with PI 2007.
Remembering that the Axim is a Traditional Stylus-driven PPC, does anyone have experience moving from 7 to 8?
Is it a significant upgrade?
(Have been too lazy to download, install, and test Trial Version of 8 ---- besides, that Almost Always results in Buying whatever app is supposedly "under review..."

Very similar, except for new features. PI8 does have a "touch mode" that some may like, but I turn it off, preferring to use the stylus. I've not noticed any issues vs PI7 when it comes to usability.

Would be nice if we could have the option to install only the components we require to cut down on the huge amount of storage it occupies. I dont use the contacts, notes, journal components so these are just a waste of space to me. Can anyone suggest a lightweight but well featured replacement for the Calendar alone, with a good week and Agenda view?

"Full Featured" and "Lightweight" are relative terms - but have you looked at SPB Diary? How does that fit / not fit your requirements?
Run SPB Diary along with Pocket Informant, and the two mesh well.
For simply getting a quick look at what's coming up, Diary can work rather well.

SPB Diary looks nice but Today Agenda seems the better option for me, have no need for the extra features of Diary. What I really want is just the calendar function from PI, I like the events view, which I can customise and the weekly/monthly view. Prettly much everything else in PI is not a requirement for me. Thats why an optional component install would suit me fine, or alternatively release PI Lite with just the calendar functions. Thanks for the suggestion though.

PI had a Lite version but it appears they have pulled it off the market.....
Otherwise you can try Extreme Agenda as it is the lightest PIM out there and you can turn off the views you dont use and control which system shortcuts it takes over.... Version 3.3 was just released.....

I have tried XA not too long ago and was not happy with one aspect, I think it was the week view and the fact that you always had the "spinner" when you started up, I would have preferred to see an agenda screen with upcoming appointments and tasks or even better customisable.
Besides I purchased your previous program Ultiplanner and seeing how that was abandoned abruptly and furthermore no discount offered to upgrade to XA I think i'll pass on XA.

Hmmm... You can shut off the spinner completely and there is a selection of what screen you startup on, including Today's Day View with appointments and tasks....And the Week View was improved with the new Drag-n-Drop and context menu additions in Version 3.3.
And Ulti-Planner falls under the Competitive Upgrade pricing for XA and so the program is half off.. Im not sure how much better you wanted us to do on that.... Its basically an Upgrade from UP...(and we happen to charge less for updates and less frequently).
Thanks

Hmm - there WAS a "pocket informant calendar" product - but other post seems to be correct in noting that it is no longer for sale.
Probably not enough buyers for "calendar only" product.....
In theory, you CAN use PI as Default Calendar App - but NOT as default Contacts / Tasks:
"In PI 2008, if you go to My Informant from the Menu Soft Key, then Roles / Views / Features, you can select which areas PI should be the default application. In your case, you'd want to select "Default Calendar Application", and make sure the rest (Contacts and Tasks) are disabled."
Of course, begs question of efficiency of buying entire app & only use 1 part of it....
Good Luck!
