Default Pictures and Details on Palm Treo 800w at Sprint

http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/28/...al-details-lac/

"We're not sure where our tipster got these pictures (nor are we going to ask), but they appear to be screens from the Treo 800w's specification and knowledge training documentation. New tidbits include a 333 Mhz processor, 4.4.1 x 2.28 x 0.73-inch dimensions, 320 x 320 pixel screen, and a weight of 4.94 ounces. Windows Mobile 6.1 looks to be in full-force, the camera shoots at 2 MP, and the USB port is 2.0."

Engadget has a few other images and specs on the device. It has the Sprint logo and should go for around $249.99 with a contract. MMS is missing though. You can of course send pictures via email, but to receive pictures, it seems you'll get an SMS with a link you can click on and view in Pocket IE. I might be upset about that except the MMS clients for Windows Mobile are horrible, so using the MMS client or having to click a link and view in PIE has about the same suckage factor. I am befuddled as to why MS doesn't just write a decent MMS client and ditch the third party client that most carriers are licensing.

Awesome is right! For those of us that love the form factor of the Palm for its usability, we don't want that changed. fficeffice" />>>

And yay! That's what I said too when I heard about the 800.>>
>>
I am personally looking very forward to this device. For my purposes, I can do virtually everything faster on my 700w than any other WM device (and I have experimented with a lot of them.) Why would I want that to change? >>
>>
I get the fact that this device isn't for everyone, I mean it has a square screen and not a ton of screen real estate. For me, that works out for me just fine. There are so many advantages to the Palm additions and one handed operation - I make calls faster, look up contacts faster, read e-mail faster - for me, this device is simply more efficient than all of those innovative ffice:smarttags" />HTC devices.>>
>>
I've always wondered why it was so much fun to poke at Palm for their lack of innovation. I really, really like this device. For me (and many others,) it will be a sad day when we're forced to move away from this form factor and into a slider or soft only keyboard. Give me function and efficiency over cool 3d screen transitions any day!

And this is why copying/pasting your posts from Word, or wherever this came from, is a bad idea.

Yeah, it's kind of bizarre that Palm can't make a Treo that isn't a brick.

Boy, that's the truth. I need to find the spell check for IE plugin again. All because I always spell "efficient" wrong...

As for the form factor, I don't care how it looks - for me, it works and works like a charm. Every button is placed exactly where it should be. I never appreciated the "one handed operation" bit until I used it.

I like the HTC devices (and others too) but after playing with them for a while, I always miss my Palm.

I sometimes wonder if our disdain for Palm hardware is because their OS (at one time) was a bitter rival to WM, so anything with the word Palm in it just subconsciously brings out those same emotions...

Actually, no, I've always liked Palm hardware - it's very nicely designed from a quality perspective...but devices that thick belong in 2005, not 2008. Palm just can't seem to make a slender, pocket-able device...and I really want them to!

I really liked the Treo 750. Its shape fitted my hand perfectly, even when it was a bit thicker than I liked. But now I have the Samsung i780, which is a similar device (touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard), but with functionality that looks a lot like the new Treo (WiFi, 320x320). It also has built in GPS (can't find if the 800 will have that), and a bloody fast processor. And is half the thickness of the Treo (nice when carried in your pocket), while still fitting my hand perfectly. The Samsung has (very) slightly worse one hand operation (the Palm enhancements of Windows Mobile are excellent, but the Samsung is quite easy to control with one hand as well), and no threaded SMS (which will come with the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade that has been announced). The only real dislike I have is the Samsung specific connector for charging and headphones (bwargh), but that's not enough to keep me from using it. All in all I agree with glw35: give me a formfactor like this over touchscreen keyboards or slider devices anytime.

So is there a Treo 850w also? I recall seeing some pictures of a device with flush screen and slightly different design.

For those of us that RELY HEAVILY on the Treo primarily because of it's form factor as others have said, we DO NOT want it to change form factors.

Sliders and other moving parts phones are I'm sure great for those that just want something capable of email, web, messaging etc that looks cool too...but for hard core business users that are using this thing constantly, while walking, driving, etc we need something easy to use with ONE HAND.

Keep it up Palm! Don't listen to these guys giving you crap, there's NOTHING wrong with the form factor!
