Default The Zune Guts: Memory Board Peeping

When I was at the MVP Summit a few weeks ago, I sat in on a presentation by one of the Zune hardware engineers, and he walked us through the guts of the Zune. It was really interesting to see the parts up close, and in some ways, to see how simple it all is - so many of the parts are not multi-function that they don't need that many discreet components. The above circuit board is the memory board - what you're seeing there is a Samsung 4 GB memory chip. The Zune 8 has two of those, so the slots are full. The Zune-team-only 16 GB Citron Zune uses two 8 GB chips. And as Samsung makes their chips in larger capacities, we'll hopefully see the Zune retain the same form-factor, just get even more storage.
