E-TEN Announces the Glofiish M750 and M810
"E-TEN Information Systems has announced the Glofiish M810 and M750, the first in a new series of Pocket PC Phones that put the focus on portable entertainment, dynamic social networking, and go-anywhere communications ideal for the web 2.0 generation. E-TEN's newest Pocket PC Phones harness the latest mobile hardware technologies together with innovations in software to create a pair of sleekly portable, multi-connected devices, designed to help the new breed of bloggers, podcasters, video makers, and chatters, stay online and updated wherever they are."
E-TEN has just announced two new Glofiish devices, the M750 and M810. Inside, there's a Samsung S3C2442 500MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 256MB ROM, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, GPS (SiRFstar III), a 2.0-megapixel camera with auto-focus, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a microSD slot, and a 2.8" QVGA touch screen, all powered by Windows Mobile 6 Professional. The M810 has the added bonus of tri-band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity. Specs-wise, there isn't much here that sets it apart from previous Glofiish devices, but the design has certainly been kicked up a few notches.

I'm interested in neither the small, QVGA screen, the 64MB RAM, nor the sliding keyboard (which has been a disappointment on my current phone). What does it take to get a manufacturer to offer a device with all the trimmings -- 3G, VGA, full BT compatibility, GPS, decent RAM, and a fast processor? I'd happily part with my money if somebody would just do the damn phone right.

It looks like it will have the same 64 Mb RAM. Thank you, but no, thank you. I would rather wait for something dissent, SE Experia for example.

Ahhh, the wonderful world of RAM lacktivity. As I type this on my mogul, WM informs me that i must close opera 9, active sync or phone to continue...

Perhaps the velocity mobile 103 will interest you? The screen is VGA, but it is still only 2.8". I think you will be hard pressed to find a large screen WM phone as more people vote for pocketability, myself included. I like qwerty sliders so the xperia x1 is my cup of tea. The 3" WVGA screen, faster processor, and sexy form factor doesnt hurt though.

Eten releases a lot of devices, you would think they would go all out on at least 1 design. 64MB ram is laughable, these devices dont have anything that makes them stand out. Next please.

I have to believe that what's driving new devices lately is a financial and/or engineering-centric approach to product development, rather than a market centric approach. If any of these manufacturers was doing its homework with the high-end segment, they'd see both the unmet needs and the potential margin.

Their upcoming V900 may be just that. Last I checked, it had VGA, 128MB RAM, UMTS/HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, and TV. And I have confirmation that it'll run Windows Mobile 6.1.

In case anyone's interested, here are pictures of the M750 (top) and M810 (bottom). Physically, there's not much difference. The M810 does have a camera at the front for video calls.
