Toshiba Preps New WM Phones
"In a Nutshell, our G910 has everything the HTC Universal had but with some improvement, like a reduced size and a smaller weight. Also a 2Mpix VGA Camera, 256MB of ROM and 128MB of RAM, an A-GPS, 3G HSDPA... This device will be sold in France in March for around 599. 117mm x 64mm x 19.8mm for 183g only."
Akihabara News has the goods on two new Toshiba WM Phones. The first is the rumoured successor to the G900 with a form factor similar to the Universal, but keeping that cool WVGA screen. Up next is a lower-spec Blackjack lookalike, the G710, sporting GPS but with only EDGE for a data connection. Warning: the links go to pages with some very large images.

So - no easy use in portrait (i.e. not flip screen), no touchscreen, only Windows Mobile Standard, a screen resolution that throws up problems with some software, and from the company that released the buggy mess that is the G900.
Is it too much to hope for a genuine successor/improvement on the Universal? The Eten M800 has had poor press, the Toshiba G900 is buggy, the imate 9502 is still nowhere to be seen, the HTC Advantage is a monster and the iPAQ 210 is without GPS or phone capabilities.
Who do we have to kill to get a genuine improvement over devices now years old?

Why, why did they design it like this!? Ok, there's that neat external caller/time display but not being able to hold it in tablet position just kills one handed or stylus use.

Where did you hear that? It looks like a WM Professional device to me.

That's actually barely a problem with the g900. Most 3rd party software is well designed and behaves surprisingly well on a wvga screen.

Not that it makes Toshiba look any better, but a ROM upgrade was recently leaked that seems to fix most issues. I've never had that many anyway, since my device was not one of the earlier versions. I upgraded from an HTC Universal and have generally been very happy with the g900.

Several places have indicated it is only WM Standard. Mind you - that could be an error.

Not exactly something that would inspire people to trust Toshiba though is it.
