Default HTC Polaris to be Unveiled as the HTC Touch Cruise

http://translate.google.com/transla...w%2F3912%2F2%2F

"HTC ago dietrofront compliance programs and decide at the last minute not to submit to the press at the Windows Mobile Day, Corsican in Milan, expected Polaris. Despite the unexpected and out of the institutional framework of the event organized by Microsoft, SoloPalmari is equally successful in capturing images live and eliciting information concerning the All-In-One PDA phone. Un'anticipazione all, a partial confirmation of recent leaks: the code name Polaris will soon be replaced by the final "Touch Cruise", in accordance with the presence of technology TouchFLO. HTC Touch Cruise will once on the market, a price of around 600 euros." Google translation of original

According to SoloPalmari, the new HTC Touch Cruise will contain the following specs:
Quote:
# OS: Windows Mobile 6 Professional
# CPU: Qualcom MSM 7200 from 400 MHz
# Memory: RAM 128 MB ROM 256 MB
# Telephone: GSM / GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSDPA (up to 3.6 Mbits)
# Display: QVGA touchscreen system TouchFLO
# Wireless: Wi-Fi b / g, Bluetooth 2.0
# GPS: A-GPS GpsONE
# Expansion: slot microSD (compatible SDHC)
# FM Tuner
Nurhisham posted on the Polaris a few weeks ago and it's TouchFlo interface. SoloPalmari doesn't mention the HSUPA support, only HSDPA. Hopefully that's just an oversight. Look for the Touch Cruise to be officially announced soon, perhaps as early as Monday. So, if this were used in a theoretical Mission Impossible IV, would it be the Touch Cruise Tom Cruise edition. 8O

Wow, sorry I haven't been following PDA news for awhile, but according to the features on PDADB.net, wouldn't this be the most feature packed PPC, yet?

All it lacks is VGA. I'd been waiting for this one, but caved in and bought the plain vanilla Touch. I'd probably go for it anyhow. If it would work in the US on AT&T. Or if I could get it. Big "ifs"...
Wonder how much bigger it is than the Touch. You never are really sure until you see them together with your own eyes....

According to the picture on SoloPalmari, it looks about the same, just a "touch" bigger.

Haw! That's the Touch dual, though, not the Touch that's in the picture, and the dual is bigger than the vanilla Touch.

I wonder when this will be on the market. It's basically a Kaiser minus the keyboard, but plus TouchFlo screen and FM Radio. I like it!

HTC does not like VGA.

I've been a committed Microsoft customer for the last 7 years. After watching that video about the differences between the iphone and PPC, I'm inclined to wait for the 2nd Gen iphone (hopefully with 3G, GPS and Word and Excel editing).

Nonetheless, the Polaris is pretty slick.

iPhone + 3G + full BT support + integrated GPS + open development platform = 7 years' worth of PPC gadgets and apps in the trash for me, too. A slide-out keyboard would be a worthwhile trade-off for the GPS. After using the iPhone next to my 8125 (and testing the Tilt), the only thing that keeps me with the WM platform is the iPhone's shortcomings, rather than WM's benefits.

FYI, Apparently (according to Mobile Planet/Expansys) HTC just pushed the release date out on this until Jan 21, 2008.

Nothing worse than checking order status and watching it go from 21 days to 48 in less than 24 hours.

Ok, there are a lot of things worse than that but it still stinks.
