Samsung i780 Officially Announced
"Samsung i780 is a slim messaging mobile phone based on Windows Mobile PPC with a full QWERTY keyboard. It has a large 2.55 TFT touch screen and an optical joystick, allowing for 360 navigation on menus, Internet and applications. It allows users to be connected at all times through HSDPA (up to 3.6Mbps) and 802.11b/g. It is equipped with A-GPS, while a full navigation package is also available."
The above picture (and more) are available from GPSAndCo (French); the device looks a lot like the BlackJack, and I have to say I quite like the look. Moreover, it seems to be the first device featuring a 320x320 screen, beating Palm's rumored future WM Treo to market. Alas, it's 900/1800/1900/2100, and as such it's ill-suited to North America. Availability should be in January of next year.

I guess someone decided they were willing to risk the hassles of having to rescale zillions of software titles to fit into the 320x320 square screen.

LOL - oh what fun. But nice to see someone finally made a decent square screen for PocketPC instead of that silly 240x240 that must have cost software developers millions to support.

Me likes much.
I wish T-Mobile would carry this device (not likely now with the Shadow out), but I prefer this form factor over sliders (yes, even the Kaiser).
320x320 is fine by me. That will still run all the QVGA apps for current phones without scrolling or cropping. GPS, b/g wifi, 3G, and blackberry-esque keyboard....all in all a worthy replacement for my trusty hw6945.
If ATT gets this, I might finally give up T-Mobile and switch.

I like this phone. I would love to see them make a cdma version that Verizon could pick up. Congrats to them for making a better screen. Yeah, it may take time for developers to convert, but it is time for the screens and developers to evolve. Nicer screens make for a more enjoyable experience with your phone!
