Default Sprint to Sell CDMA Touch

http://www2.sprint.com/mr/news_dtl.do?id=18320

"Combining a dynamic touch screen experience with industry-leading network speeds, Sprint and HTC Corp., today announced the upcoming availability of Touch by HTC, a full touch screen wireless phone integrating Windows Mobile 6 with advanced entertainment features. Operating on the Sprint Mobile Broadband network, the stylish Touch by HTC brings together email and other essential business applications with Sprint's exclusive multimedia content including over-the-air music downloads, live TV and more...Touch by HTC measures 4.0" x 2.4" x 0.6" and weighs just 4 ounces. This device will be priced at $249.99 with a two-year subscriber agreement and a $100 mail-in rebate. Standard data rates apply for music and other content downloads."

Not a bad price for a 3G CDMA Touch, although it's the first-gen unit with no slider. Are any of you planning on picking one up when it hits the market on November 4? If so, you might want to sign up here to be notified when it's in stock.

Default i'm interested...

my contract with verizon expires this month and they have nothing in the lineup that i like (to replace my Black Q). i'm disappointed that GPS (and wifi) are missing, but i will probably check out the Sprint Touch because of the phone's size, faster processor and additional RAM/ROM. early information suggested the phone would have GPS enabled; although it not "officially" enabled, i wonder if it can be enabled via a ROM update (similar to what HTC did on the Trinity).

dcortez, the chipsets have GPS enabled. I believe it is called GPSone by Qualcomm. The only problem is that its not externally accessible. So when you call 911 your location can be reported, but not if you want to use Google maps. Same thing with the Mogul.

As I have stated in previous posts on this site before,... why does Sprint/Nextel not have the Direct Connect feature on a PPC phone? This would make it my perfect device if it had this feature. I would beat people up to be first in line.

But it doesn't,... so I will hold back my aggression.

Verizon is suppose to be releasing the equal to Sprint's Mogul (finally) next month...

I'm holding my breath.

Meanwhile - can anyone provide any decent feedback on Sprint versus Verizon? reliabilty? coverage? Speed?

Thanks

Well, the Nextel Direct Connect is achieved with Nextel/Motorola's proprietary network technology (iDEN), and is unlikely to appear on any Pocket PC Phone unless Motorola itself designs such a device.

(I think Sprint also has PTT CDMA, but I don't know if it works nearly as well as Direct Connect.)
