Default Verizon's PDA Lineup To Include XV6800 In November?

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/...p-for-november/

"With the holidays right around the corner, carriers will pull out all the stops to attract new customers and Verizon's no exception to the rule...UTStarcom looks to finally bring the XV6800 running WM6 Professional, too -- but sadly, it will also have the EV-DO Rev. A radio downgraded to Rev. 0 at launch."

Of the four devices listed by Engadget, I'm sure our readers are most interested in the XV6800. I hope that, if this Rev. A rumor is true, Verizon will offer an upgrade reasonably quickly.

This phone is almost a year old. Verizon first stated that they would be releasing it back in Nov of 2006. Sprint released it months ago, and i believe AT&T has a version as well. But not only that, there is already an updated version. Verizon really missed out on a great opportunity here. I waited patiently for this device and it never got released, and now a year later (after 18 different colored chocolate, 12 types of razrs and krazr, 10 motos - exagerrating) you finally release something that would have been worth buying a year ago. I will stick with my env. Because we all know the bluetooth and wifi will be crippled in some way. And their web packages are ridiculous. I'd be better off waiting on the ipaq 210. Thanks verizon.

Is it possible to get an unlocked version of the 6800 and then join it to the Verizon Network? I have the 6700 which was severely weakened in the wifi arena until I found out how to have both bluetooth and wifi. The cell phone companies are starting to get nastier about people adjusting their phone bios, so I thought an unlocked phone may be the superior way to go.

TimothyP - AMEN BROTHER! Geesh - what a pain Verizon has proven to be. Seems like I was writing about T-Mo being like this a couple of years ago before I switched to Verizon - now I am regretting the switch, but alas, I have a contract. All I can say is that they better release this in November...

WaSP - nope you can't buy an "unlocked" phone for CDMA networks/carrier - which Verizon and Sprint are. They load their devices with "firmware" unique to their network unlike GSM devices (ATT & TMo) whcih have a SIM card - their devices are essentially "dumb terminals" and you make them smart by inserting the SIM card. Kinda like that model - but I am sure there are drawbacks to that...

Yup, that's pretty lame. Looks like (at least) this'll ship with WM6 now.

I have the XV6700 with a cooked ROM so the XV6800 is an incremental upgrade at best. I agree with the above statements that basically conclude Verizon has lagged in releasing WM platform phones.

I suppose I'll wait until a PDA phone with integrated GPS and EVDO Rev A comes out. Our maybe I'll spring for a UMPC??
