"Motorola Inc. today introduced a new version of its flagship MC70 mobile computer, featuring integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) capability. This new option of Motorola�s fastest-selling rugged mobile computer will allow organisations with field-based employees, such as postal companies, to track and manage dynamic, real-time tasking, as well as verify specific locations of activities and provide mobile workers with pinpoint navigation support to improve location-based productivity. The MC70 has been widely embraced for its lightweight, ergonomic design and ability to withstand the rigours of everyday use in harsh environments. Protected against a variety of environmental risks, including frequent drops to concrete, and exposure to water, dust and extreme temperatures, the MC70 is optimised for both indoor and outdoor applications"



The versatile MC70 now adds GPS capability to it's long list of communications tools, including voice and data capture, barcode data and signature capture, support for high-speed EDGE networks, wireless 802.11a/b/g networks and Bluetooth. According to Motorola's press release, the GPS-enabled MC70 will make appearances at the Post Expo 2007 in Barcelona and the IT Convergence Show in Paris in October 2007 and should be available for sale worldwide in the first quarter of 2008.

Oh dear god not more stuff in the ROM! The MC70 suffers BADLY from DLL crunch - install .NET Framework 2.0 and SQL Server CE 3.0 and load them into a process, then watch device.exe fall over as the memory taken by the threads' stacks smashes into all the driver DLLs loaded when you suspend and resume the device.

Not entirely Symbol's fault, Microsoft have added so much stuff to Windows Mobile 5.0 Phone Edition that they've overflowed the 32MB ROM-based DLLs area (Slot 1) added in Windows CE 4.0 and are taking up 20MB of Slot 0 again.
