Free Mobile MySpace On the Way
"News Corporation is planning to make a beta mobile version of MySpace freely available beginning this week. Not all features will be available, but users will be able to send and receive messages and friend requests, comment on pictures and profiles, post bulletins, update blogs, find and search for friends, and view or change mood status. The free MySpace push is part of a larger plan to offer free mobile content from News Corporation, which owns MySpace and other sites such as AskMen and RottenTomatoes.com. All the sites will be supported by targeted mobile advertising."
Myspace is now following your space. For a while, the only way to get Mobile Myspace in the US was through a paid service on devices from AT&T, T-Mobile and Helio. CNN's coverage of the story said it would be live on Monday, but as of Tuesday afternoon it still wasn't working, so I guess it's a case of "Watch this (my)space". When it goes live, you can find the beta site at http://mobile.myspace.com/.

But that preview is missing all those elements that give MySpace its special something -- the loud tiling background graphics, the zillion links and bits of text in various colours splattered around the page, and we mustn't forget the music widget that screams out your speakers as soon as you open the page.

I used to have a Myspace acct. My page was non-existant but I occasionally browsed other members' pages. I found that I just wasn't ADD enough to handle the site.

Thanks for the clarification, Adamz. Did you get a chance to try it? Your thoughts?

I did. In the morning it was working, but photos weren't loading. In the afternoon, photos were loading and it was working pretty well. Each person's profile has separate links for the profile details sections, comments, friends, photos, etc. You can only search for users by email address. There was no browse feature like there is on the full MySpace, but you could still access all the important stuff like messages, comments, blog, and friend requests. Also, it does not render all the custom CSS that people use, so that was a good thing. So, I liked it.
