Qualcomm Wins Stay of Import Ban in Patent Dispute Case
"Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced that the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit granted a stay pending appeal that will allow third parties to import handsets into the United States originally banned by the International Trade Commission (ITC)."
And so the soap opera continues. You've got mobile techies' favorite discussion subjects: patents, cellular networks, proprietary wireless technologies, all rolled into one. Short-term, this is probably good news for US Pocket PC Phone consumers--I presume HTC and others use Qualcomm for their CDMA chipsets (although HTC wasn't party to the stay, so maybe I'm wrong). The longterm situation, though, remains murky as ever. I wouldn't be surprised if HTC is looking for alternatives during this reprieve if they haven't already.

The sooner Qualcomm gets put in its place the better. They're the greatest obstacle to common standards, competition and innovation in the industry.

IMHO incorporation of Qualcom chipsets into newsst PPCs is a step backward not forward. I have switched from HTC Hermes to Titan and performance is not what it's was hyped to be. I would say Mogul is slower than Hermes and battery life is dismal. I would like to see MArvell or Samsung chips with advanced ATI or Intel GPUs.
